Portland Hearts of Pine have announced the signing of 27-year-old midfielder Matteo Kidd and 30-year-old midfielder Diogo Barbosa as the club continues to finalize its roster ahead of the upcoming USL League One season.
The 30-year-old veteran, Barbosa, joins Portland from the Maltese Premier League, where he played for Gżira United F.C. during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. The midfielder comes to Portland after professional stints in England, Cyprus, Australia, and Malta.
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Kidd is a product of Saint Louis University and began his professional career in 2021 with Chicago House AC of NISA. He moved to MLS NEXT Pro in 2022, signing with Chicago Fire FC II before returning to his hometown in 2023 to join St. Louis City SC 2.
Across his five professional seasons, Kidd spent the last three with St. Louis City SC 2, where he recorded 10 goals and 4 assists, including a strong 2025 campaign that saw him tally 6 goals and 3 assists.
Kidd has been training with Portland since the club’s stateside preseason exhibition schedule began at Clemson University in early February.
The move also reunites Kidd with Hearts head coach Bobby Murphy, who previously coached him at St. Louis City SC 2 before Murphy took over the Portland side.
