Boston Legacy FC was honored by the Massachusetts Women’s Caucus at the state house, days before the club’s inaugural match.
The team’s owners, general manager, team president, coaches, and the entire roster were all in attendance. The 24 players walked out to resounding cheers and applause.
Representative Christine Barber, the co-chair of the caucus, and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll began the address and celebrated the growth of women’s sports in the state, as well as the Legacy’s arrival in the community.
“We're incredibly proud, because leadership really matters and representation matters, and moments like this remind us just how far we've come and yet how far we can still go,” said Driscoll.
General Manager Dome Guasch thanked the legislators and expressed gratitude for the support the team has received from fans all over the state.
“This is only the beginning. We have the chance to build something special here with this community, something that inspires the future, something that brings people together, something that this city and this state can be proud of for the years to come,” he said.
The Legacy will face Gotham FC for its first-ever game on Saturday, March 14 at Gillette Stadium.
