This hasn’t been the season the New England Revolution hoped for, but assistant coach Pablo Moreira sees positives to build off of.

Moriera arrived in New England during the offseason, reuniting with head coach Caleb Porter. The two worked together at Akron University, the Portland Timbers, and Columbus Crew, winning championships at all three stops. The hope is that they can do the same in New England.

But this year hasn’t been smooth.

After a 2-10-1 start while balancing Concacaf Champions Cup and league play, the Revs won five of six. They’ve since gone 1-5-2 while navigating injuries.

The Revs are currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference after losing 3-0 to Orlando City SC.

Moreira, who served as the acting head coach on Saturday whil Porter served a one-game suspension, was asked to reflect on the 2024 season and what has gone wrong. He admitted that it’s a “loaded question.”

“[I’ve] been fortunate enough to work with Caleb, kind of my whole career, almost his whole career,” Moreira said. “It's been an interesting season. It's a loaded question, but I just think obviously when we first came in, it's a new group, it's a new system, it's a new style of play. So, we saw early on, just getting adjusted to that.

“Then in the middle of season, as you guys saw, injuries took a toll. But in that span where we won those games in a row, you can see our structures, both attacking and defending. That's how we're looking to play.

“So with people coming back from injuries, it's great because a lot of guys are getting healthy, but there's also some inconsistencies in the play and just the rhythm and the routine of being out there. So from that standpoint, things haven't gone great, but there are some things to build off of.”

The Revs sit six points below the playoff line with seven games left to play. They welcome CF Montreal on Wednesday before traveling to Charlotte on Saturday.
