By now you’ve surely seen the post-game reactions after Saturday’s 2-2 draw between the New England Revolution and St. Louis CITY SC.
The most controversial moment of the game came during the final ten minutes when referee Tim Ford was called to the monitor to get another look at a possible handling offense by Kyle Hiebert. Ford didn’t give a penalty because he believed the defender’s arm was in a “justifiable position.”
Revs head coach Caleb Porter disagreed, saying, “It's 100 percent a penalty kick. One hundred percent. I don't know how you look honestly at the screen and decide not to give a penalty."
Revs captain Carles Gil said, “Honestly, I was thinking when I can shoot the penalty because I saw a clear penalty and everyone saw that.”
The non-call has been a talking point for the last week. With this in mind, let’s take a closer look at the Revs and penalty kicks.
