Taylor Twellman Discusses Revolution's Stadium Efforts
"Boston is going to be a top three market in Major League Soccer, the moment that thing opens."
The New England Revolution are in the process of potentially building their own soccer-specific stadium and while there is a long road to go, one day the Revs will call Everett home.
The Revs and The Kraft Group will now work with the city of Boston through a mediator to try and reach a deal to give the construction of a stadium the green light. While the stadium is largely supported by the city of Everett, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has been disappointed in the negotiations the city of Boston has had with The Kraft Group.
When in town for alumni night at Gillette Stadium, former Revolution forward and current MLS Season Pass analyst Taylor Twellman discussed the impact getting their own stadium will have on the club.
“I don't know how to put into words, because of what we've seen in other markets,” Twellman said. “For the 26 years that I've been in this state and in the city, they've told me it's not going to happen. It is going to happen, and that day is going to be very difficult for everyone here to quantify. I think what it's going to do is help people realize the intelligent soccer market that is here that has existed from when my uncle was playing for the Teamen. It's always been here, but now you'll have a place where everyone can come together. You fly into Logan, you see that every single time. Boston is going to be a top-three market in Major League Soccer, the moment that thing opens.”
If the two sides don’t reach a deal with a mediator by the end of the year, the next step would be reaching a deal via arbitration. Still, Twellman’s confidence is sure to increase the confidence of Revolution fans that one day their favorite club will finally have a home.
Unpopular opinion: putting a smaller stadium in a place with limited parking is not going to be the boon most people think it will be.
Whether in Everett or elsewhere, capacity needs to be 30k minimum. We're drawing that much at Gillette.
