How on earth do you focus on Vrioni, who was playing in a two-man striker formation with a traffic cone as a partner? Vrioni struggled but also did a lot, but constantly when he went to look for his strike partner, there was nobody there. Jozy absolutely killed the attack tonight. Vrioni struggled in large part because the attack essentially played down a man.
You are 100 percent right about Jozy being poor but when you are a DP going up against a USL team you need to perform better. Altidore didn't make life easier but Altidore being poor doesn't excuse Vrioni’s poor performance
But DP's don't exist in a vacuum. Hell, in 2021, we saw that without Bou, Buksa, and Gil all on at once, each player's performance dipped (ok probably not Gil but he's Gil). Vrioni needed support and didn't get it. I don't think he had a very good night, but he was far from the problem.
The whole team played poorly. They couldn't hit side of a barn if their lives depended on it. I believe they only got one shot on target. It was a team failure tonight.
The team certainly didn't play great, but I do think that when you've got a forward who's just *not making the runs*, not receiving passes, not making passes, and on those few occasions where he does receive the ball in a good spot, can't even put it on target, the whole attack is gonna suffer for it. There were a number of decent, promising attacks that turned into nothing because we were essentially down a man in front.
Agreed. You know Vrioni is a striker that relies on service and you pair him with a strike partner and midfield that can't provide it. Altidore probably needs to retire after that performance and Rennicks and Rivera didn't even look USL level out there.
