Curt Onalfo Discusses Summer Transfer Window
The sporting director didn't rule out the possibility of making more moves this summer.
New England Revolution sporting director Curt Onalfo didn’t rule out the possibility of making more transactions this summer after adding Matt Turner on a one-year loan from Lyon.
Turner rejoins the Revolution after spending time with Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, and Crystal Palace. The goalkeeper will occupy a Designated Player slot this year, but is TAM-eligible in 2026.
Onalfo complimented his staff for aiding in the deal, explicitly noting that Chris Tierney “did an incredible job of capitalizing on that moment.”
The Revs have until the window closes on August 24 to make additional moves.
“We are tight [in terms of the cap], but every team is tight,” Onalfo said. “We have ways to maneuver, and we will continue finding ways to get better in this window.
“You alluded to, could we do better in the attacking part of the field? Certainly, we could. Having said that, our attacking players are beginning to produce and you can see there’s a shift. We’re creating more chances, we’re creating more goals, and we’re scoring more goals. We believe the players that are here will continue to do that.
“But if we have an opportunity where we can get better in the attacking part of the field, then we’re going to go ahead and do it.”
The Revolution currently sit ten points below the playoff line with ten games to go. Opponents include D.C. United, Charlotte FC, Toronto FC, Atlanta United, and Chicago (twice), all of which are near them in the standings.
Seven of the remaining games are at home, though the Revs are 2-7-2 at Gillette Stadium this year.
“The area that we have to get better in is we have to better at home,” Onalfo said. “It’s that simple. Our road record is in the top third of the league. But our home record has not been good.”
Onalfo stated that Caleb Porter’s “work ethic is incredible” and that he puts “so much effort into preparing the team.” He expressed confidence that the “coaching staff is looking hard at ways to remedy the home form.”
This is Onalfo’s second year as sporting director after serving as the club's technical director from 2019-2023. Onalfo helped revamp the Revs’ Academy before ascending to his new role.
Porter was hired as head coach just before the 2024 season.
While Onalfo recognizes that recent results have been frustrating, he’s also looking at avenues to “channel that frustration and that emotion into something that’s productive for everybody.”
“The important thing is to stay even-keeled,” Onalfo said. “I know what I signed up for, these aren’t easy jobs. We believe in our process, we believe in the things that we’re doing, and we’re just going to continue to get better each day.
“What I can control right now is trying to continually bring in players that help the team. That’s what I’m focused on and that’s what my staff is focused on. We’ll continue to do that, and now we just have to make sure our home form gets better. That’s the goal, and hopefully it starts on Saturday.”
The fastest way for this team to get better is to fire Porter and Onalfo.
This entire article shows how tone deaf they both are. What team is he watching that our attack is getting better?
Can we move him ... out of the team?
