Vermont Green FC News: Legend Returns to Burlington, Chris Taylor Names Staff, & More Updates
And the season opener is just over a week away
With the 2025 USL League Two season opener a week away, Vermont Green FC has finalized its coaching staff while also adding additional names to the 2025 roster.
Starting off with Chris Taylor’s coaching staff, assistant coach Lee Williamson will return for his second season with the Green. Williamson joined Adam Pfeifer’s staff in 2024 for the U.S. Open Cup and USL League Two season.
Ben Woelfinger, and Jed Sass will also be assistant coaches with 2025 being their first season for the club. Woelfinger was part of the NCAC Coaching Staff of the Year in 2024 at Denison University and played his collegiate career at St. Lawrence University. He will also serve as a goalkeeping coach as he actually started a match between the Green in 2023.
Sass graduated from Hartford High School and Middlebury College before beginning a career in coaching and teaching. He is a current assistant coach St. Michael’s College.
Hannah Tremel will join Vermont Green FC as the club’s athletic trainer. Tremel has worked for the University of Vermont since 2021, with the women’s skiing and men’s soccer programs.
Prior to UVM, Tremel was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Boston University and an undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh. Tremel is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association.
Tremel will be supported by Dr. J.P. Begly as team doctor. Dr. Begly has been a dedicated volunteer for Vermont Green FC since the inaugural season in 2022, lending his expertise to assess and treat injuries while sharing sports medicine insights and guidance on preventive care. Begly practices orthopedics and sports medicine at Central Vermont Medical Center, a member of the University of Vermont Health Network.
The Green also added a handful of players to its roster ahead of the 2025 season. Since we last checked in on Vermont, the Green added six players. Two of those will be players who have spent their summer in Burlington in prior campaigns.
Vermont’s biggest addition has to be debut campaign star Owen O’Malley. The ninth overall selection in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft never found success in the top level of domestic soccer in the United States. O’Malley would go on to make 26 appearances in MLS NEXT Pro and tallied three assists.
With his experience, O’Malley has the potential to be the top player of USL League Two, but after flaming out in MLS, is he still the same player he was a few years ago?
Also returning is Pearse O’Brien who featured in the 2024 U.S. Open Cup. O’Brien was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team in 2024 and has prior experience with Hartford Athletic and Real Monarchs.
In terms of new faces, Vermont added Judewellin Michel, Stephane Njike, Rommee Jaridly, and Ioannis Vassiliou.
Michel is another addition to the goalkeeping crew as well as another graduate of the CF Montreal system. The 6’4” Haitian-Canadian goalkeeper brings a wealth of experience with clubs in the Canadian Premier League, Ligue1 Quebec, and represented Quebec in the 2022 Canada Summer Games.
Njike finished his freshman season at Long Island University with six goals and five assists, earning Rookie of the Season in the NEC. Then after transferring to Marshall, he was named the 2025 College Spring League MVP with Marshall being crowned champions.
Jaridly joins the Green for the 2025 USL League Two season after recording four assists for the San Diego State Aztecs and started all 18 matches for the WAC Regular Season Champions.
Vassiliou is the latest Vermont Catamount to join the Green for the USL League Two season. Before Burlington, he played with FC Eddersheim, spent 10 years in the youth academy of Eintracht Frankfurt, and made appearances with the Greek U-17 national team.
