Vermont Green FC bounced back after drawing with Boston Bolts over the weekend by securing a 2-0 victory over Black Rock FC.
Niklas Herczeg once again got the start in net behind the backline of Luca Costabile, Victor Akoum, Moussa Ndiaye, and Brandon Marshall. Diego Rived and Julien Le Bourdoulous made up the defensive midfield.
Marcell Papp and Enzo Dovlo were on the wings while Zachary Zengue was the No. 10. Up top, Tyler Trimnal was the lone striker.
After both sides struggled to get anything going in the final third, Herczeg was forced to make a point-blank save in the 28th minute. Black Rock came to play and was testing Vermont on Tuesday evening.
Zengue got one of the Green’s best chances in the 32nd minute but was unable to convert. Dovlo then got a chance in on goal in the 35th minute but his shot went wide.
The Green came alive late in the first half and eventually found the back of the net in the 37th minute. Zengue found Papp in the box and the Vermont Catamount was able to control the pass and find the back of the net.
Dovlo rifled another shot in the 41st minute, but the Black Rock goalkeeper punched the ball away. The Green recovered possession, and Zengue was able to win a free kick in the 42nd minute, but Le Bourdoulous’ shot skied over the bar.
Herczeg was forced to make two big saves early on in the second half. Between a diving stop and being forced to tap a cross over the bar, Black Rock was putting Vermont under pressure.
The Green made their first changes in the 62nd minute as Le Bourdoulous and Papp left the pitch, while Joseph Picotto and Ryan Zellefrow entered the match.
The substitutes would make an impact quickly as Zellenfrow started a counterattack by muscling the ball off an opponent. Trimnal sent a cross into the box that led to a save being made, but the rebound found Picotto, who gave Vermont a 2-0 lead in the 65th minute by finishing off the rebound.
More changes came in the 71st minute as Jacob Labovitz and Mo Ibrahim replaced Trimnal and Dovlo. Black Rock then went down a man minutes later, giving Vermont an even greater advantage. While Black Rock FC suffered a defeat, their goalkeeper had a great performance, especially with his side down a man.
Vermont’s next match is against Western Mass Pioneers up in Vermont. If the Green want to maintain their place at the top of the division, they will need to take at least a point in the match.
