Revolution lose to the worst team in MLS
The New England Revolution have lost 3-1 to the worst team in the league. No offense to CF Montréal, but they came into Friday night’s game with the literal worst record in the league.
What more is there to say? The situation in New England is bleak and there are no indications things will get better any time soon.
The Revs could not find a way to win at home against the worst team in the league. The same team they defeated at the end of May. Which, coincidentally, was the last time they won a game.
This time around, the Revs decided to switch formations to the 4-2-3-1.
Spoiler alert: it did not go well. New England got carved up defensively despite getting the go-ahead goal in the 3rd minute of the game.
Why would Head Coach Caleb Porter switch formations when the 3-5-2 was so successful against Montréal earlier this season?
Maybe the change was made because center back Brayan Ceballos was suspended for yellow card accumulation. After the result in New Jersey it seems pretty clear that Porter does not trust his options at center back.
Whatever the reason, the tactical switch backfired and Montréal took the game to the Revolution. You never would have guessed the Canadian side was at the bottom of the Supporters Shield standings the way they played in New England.
To make matters worse, Olger Escobar was the player who put the nail in the coffin. The Lynn, Massachusetts native scored in extra time to seal Montréal’s 3-1 victory.
Escobar’s impressive performance was a painful reminder of all the homegrown players the Revs have shown the door since Caleb Porter took charge. And for what? A team that cannot win at home and is likely missing the playoffs for the second year in a row.
I am appalled by the state of the team. Frustrated. Angry. Sad.
The fans deserve better than this. They keep showing up even though they get nothing in return. The last time they were able to celebrate a win at home was April 19th.
This truly, irrefutably, sucks.
Porter still having a job shows the Krafts don't give a flying fuck about the team or the fans.
Excellent rant - agree 100%
