The 2025 Revs are only realistically competing to be the best of the bottom third of MLS. There are pretty consistent trends: strong individual defenders help, but team defense is “streaky” at best; Carles Gil is magic but other scoring production is less than “streaky,” it’s just not consistently available. Making the lower seeds of the playoffs would paper over the serious deficiencies that remain in this current squad+coaching staff. I am confident that the Revs could be competitive in MLS, but it’s not happening this year.

I mentioned this on an earlier post. When they transition into a low block they just lose everything that’s working. They are best in an attacking mindset. When they have their foot on the gas, they do well. When they get protective, they fall apart.

Their identity, at least what I see, should be pushing up the field, taking advantage of transitions, and working hard in both sides of the ball.

This lazily sitting back just doesn’t work with their players.

Also, Porter NEEDS to sub players working hard on both sides earlier than his magical 72 minute mark. They are gased, they can’t get back to work, a goal goes in and everyone is defeated. Fresh legs are needed!
