Three Revs II Players Who Played Well Against Union II
Revs II has some strong performances despite the loss.
New England Revolution II dropped their season opener, losing 2-1 to Philadelphia Union II on Sunday afternoon.
Alex Monis scored for the visitors but Union II got the win after a Hesron Barry own goal and a Sal Olivas winner.
Here are three Revs II players that stood out in the loss.
Alex Monis
We have to start with the goalscorer.
The 20-year-old attacker was dynamic on Sunday as he completed two successful dribbles, had four passes into the final third, and created two chances.
Oh, and he scored the first Revs II goal of 2024.
Overall, I was impressed with Monis’ motor. The former Chicago Fire forward was a presence on both sides of the ball.
Max Weinstein
The Vermont native came to Foxboro as a member of the Revs’ residency program. Weinstein, who is a two-time U-19 MLS Next Cup Champion, is entering his second season with Revs II.
While he did concede two goals against Union II, he also made five saves. The 19-year-old was active off his line and showed that he has the ability to hold onto the ball.
It will be interesting to see who gets the majority of the minutes in net for Revs II this year, especially since Jacob Jackson could be sent down.
Gevork Diarbian
Diarbian was solid in his 33 minutes off the bench. The former Vermont Green attacker was 8/8 on accurate passes, created one chance, and had one shot on target. Diarbian looked lively and dangerous in his cameo.
I know I said I was going to highlight three players, but I think Maciel and Patrick Leal deserve some recognition. Maciel, a former Revs first team player, was a calming presence and Leal, a Massachusetts native who spent time overseas, had good composure.
Weinstein seems well ahead of Jackson in terms of ability and composure and is also younger. Hopefully Jackson doesn't block him, Weinstein looks to have a much higher ceiling.
Jackson didn't impress much when I saw him with Revs II last year.
It is Weinstein's time, he looked good Sunday even though two got by him.
