Saturday's Game Could Be A Turning Point For New England Revolution
Carles Gil: “I'm still feeling that tomorrow at home were going to win and everything is going to change - our mindset, the confidence in us, the players, even the fans.”
Saturday’s game could be a turning point for the New England Revolution.
The Revolution are currently 0-3-1, with their only goal being scored by New York City FC defender Thiago Martins.
The Revs, who were off last weekend, are now preparing to host the New York Red Bulls.
Head coach Caleb Porter believes it could be a critical match for the Revs.
“This is the game where we turn the season,” Porter said of his message to the team. “It's at home. We've dropped a couple results at home. We're not happy about that. We can't go backwards; we've got to look forward. From here on out, it's got to be three points at home."
The Revs have had two home games so far, losing 1-0 to the Columbus Crew and 2-0 to the Philadelphia Union. Both games were tight, with all three goals scored in the second half.
While home and away results haven’t gone their way so far, captain Carles Gil maintains a positive mindset.
“Me in my case, I always say in mind, 'Okay, the next one is going to be the one,'” Gil said. “Obviously, it [hasn't happened] in these four games, but I'm still feeling that tomorrow at home we’re going to win and everything is going to change - our mindset, the confidence in us, the players, even the fans.
“It's hard to win in this stadium that in the past was a stadium where no one wanted to come here to play, and we're not winning. In our minds, tomorrow's the day to win again at home and start a good season again for us.”
After Saturday, the Revs play FC Cincinnati and Atlanta United on the road. In fact, five of their next six games will be played outside the confines of Gillette Stadium.
“If we win the game, it will be a turning point for sure,” Aljaz Ivacic said. “We play at home and then in April we play [three out of four games on the road. It will be tough, so it's very important to get three points in this game."
Don’t see it getting any better. Time for a change if they don’t win.
Oh dear. Those comments are not what you'd call inspirational.
