Richie Williams Reflects on 2024, Looks to Future
Hear what Richie Williams had to say following his first season at the helm of Revolution II.
Following Sunday’s 3-1 loss to Columbus Crew 2 that cemented Revolution II’s 2024 record at an abysmal 4-18-6, head coach Richie Willams discussed what went wrong on Sunday and the 2024 season plus talked about the future of Revolution II.
Williams said Sunday’s loss essentially summed up the season.
“Some really good, strong periods of play, give up some soft goals,” he said. “We haven’t been a good defensive team and that needs to get better…Just unfortunate. It’s disappointing.”
“They put in so much work, and they play well,” Williams later said when asked about how tough it has been during the winless streak. “That’s the disappointing part and they have to learn how to compete, you gotta learn how to win, you gotta learn how to play 90 minutes and be able to get three points. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to do that.”
After an abysmal 4-18-6 record, Williams was asked if there was any concern regarding his future. To simply put it, he’s not.
“It’s a developmental team, so it’s not based on results,” he told The Blazing Musket. “I have no issues at all with them. You know, we’re just moving forward and trying to continue to develop players for the first team.”
While losses can have big impacts on player development, so do the wins. Hopefully we see more of those come 2025.
Richie has to go. Not cause of the Bruce stuff. But because he took a winning academy team and tanked them.
First off congrats on tying the MLS NEXT Pro winless streak. You should be ashamed taking a team down this road that has been use to winning. These kids deserve better than what you provided them. The only positive thing these kids had were the fans that did come to the games standing and applauding all the players as they as they left the field, even with all these loses we showed these kids respect. You need to be replaced!
