Richie Williams Discusses Roller Coaster Result Against Crew 2
Hear what Williams had to say after securing a 2-2 draw at home.
Wednesday saw Revolution II return to action as they hosted Columbus Crew 2.
Despite falling behind twice, which included a goal just 42 seconds into the match, Revs II were able to battle back to secure a 2-2 draw to get a point. They secured an additional point following a dominant 4-1 shootout victory.
Following the match, head coach Richie Williams expressed his disappointment with the result.
“I just told the guys I was disappointed and they should be too,” the head coach said. “I think the two goals we gave up were just really poor goals to give up.”
While he was disappointed, Williams was pleased with the fight his side brought.
“I like the fact we were able to fight back from two deficits and tie the game,” he said. “It’s nice to get the extra point on penalties, but it’s a learning experience for these guys to develop.”
One of the major goals for Revolution II has been youth development. Something evident on Wednesday when Williams featured Academy prospects Judah Siqueira and Grant Emerhi.
Williams applauded the duo’s work with the Academy and Revs II in the past.
“They both did very well with us in preseason,” the head coach said. “They’ve trained well with us, they’ve done well with the Academy.”
The highlight of the night came in the 78th minute when Cristiano Oliveira headed home the game-tying goal. After the match, Williams praised Oliveira’s ability.
“He understands the game very well,” Williams said. “He plays in the center of the field as an aide to try to get forward and create goals, which he has the ability to do with scoring, that was great to see tonight.”
Williams and Revolution II will look to improve from Wednesday’s outing when they return to action on Saturday as they host New York City FC II.
