Rhode Island FC Announces Inaugural Schedule
The new club will begin its season on Saturday, March 16th at Bryant University’s Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, Rhode Island against New Mexico United.
The USL Championship announced their slate of 2024 games, including new expansion side Rhode Island FC. The new club will begin its season on Saturday, March 16th at Bryant University’s Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, Rhode Island against New Mexico United.
This will be the league’s 14th season, with nine games set to be played on Saturday, March 9th, which will kick off the 34-match season, with 25 clubs competing for their spots in the 2024 USL Championship playoffs. Rhode Island FC will play 17 home matches, which will be broadcast on NESN, as recently reported, in addition to a league-wide national broadcasting deal signed with CBS Sports. Additionally, the team has announced plans to add additional seats to Beirne Stadium in response to strong ticket demand.
“Our fans can finally start marking their calendar and making plans to see Rhode Island FC in action,” Rhode Island FC president Brett Luy said. “Our team has been busy building a club for all Rhode Island and we’re putting all the pieces together to ensure that our club is competing for trophies from day one. Demand for season tickets remains strong and we encourage fans to act quickly to secure their seats for the home opener and the rest of the inaugural season.”
Rhode Island FC fans will want to make special note of August 10th’s match against local rivals Hartford Athletic, a match-up that will hopefully prove to be one of the USL Championship’s most tensely fought derbies. They will also play defending USL Championship champions Phoenix Rising FC on April 27th and RIFC head coach Khano Smith’s former club, Birmingham Legion FC, on August 31st.
The regular season wraps up with a twelve-game run on October 26th, with Rhode Island FC set to play Miami FC at home in Rhode Island.
