Revs Make Costly Mistakes In 4-1 Loss To Inter Miami
Focus shifts to 2026 with one game left.
The New England Revolution are hoping for a better 2026 after missing the playoffs for a second consecutive season.
The Revs played their penultimate game on Saturday, losing 4-1 to Inter Miami CF.
Tadeo Allende and Jordi Alba gave the home team a lead before halftime, then Dor Turgeman scored his second goal in as many games in the 59th minute.
Hope for a comeback quickly dwindled when Allende and Alba found the back of the net in the 60th and 63rd minutes.
Interim head coach Pablo Moreira said that moments like this are lessons as the club turns to the future.
“In terms of what we need to get better, you saw it today, I think our responses,” Moreira said. “Some of that has nothing to do with soccer and everything to do with the mentality.
“Unfortunately, we’ve been through a lot this year, but we can’t have the victim mindset. We have to have an aggressive mindset, and just our IQ in some moments.
“I feel like this season we’ve given away some sloppy goals in moments that we can’t correct. I think a lot of that can come down to frustration in those moments, but that’s where we need to be mentally stronger and push forward.”
Moreira did praise the roster, saying, “In terms of the character of the locker room, that’s exactly where it should be.”
Will Sands noted that the team has had moments of positive play in 2025, but there needs to be more consistency. Mistakes have proven costly.
“We need to have a clear identity of how we are, as a team, going forward and at the back,” Sands said. “At times this year, it’s been a little bit too disjointed.
“I think this is a group of guys that always works hard and gives their all, but at this level, you have to put together 90-minute performances and that’s something we haven’t done enough this year. While I think the effort is there, I do think that we have to kind of clean up our performances.”
Saturday was only the fifth time this season that the Revs have lost by multiple goals, yet they’ve been on the wrong end of 11 one-goal results.
Turgeman, who now has two goals and one assist in 124 minutes, could help flip some of those games.
“The guy gets goals,” Moreira said.
While 2025 didn’t go the way they wanted, the Revs are committed to winning their final game when they host the Chicago Fire on October 18. It’s an opportunity to bring some joy to the supporters.
“We all just want to give our fans a good ending to the season,” Sands said. “It’s been hard throughout the entirety of the season. I think giving our fans a sendoff they deserve is kind of the utmost importance for us, and that’s something we’re going to work really hard for over the next two weeks.”
