Revolution Plan To Keep Fighting After Difficult Start
Porter: ”We have to keep fighting and we have to win the next game. It’s that simple."
The New England Revolution plan to “keep fighting” as they seek their first win of 2025.
Saturday presents a new opportunity as the Revs will host the New York Red Bulls. The Red Bulls are coming off a 2-1 win over Toronto FC in a game that saw Felipe Carball earn a late red card. The Revs had last weekend off.
”We have to keep fighting and we have to win the next game. It’s that simple,” Porter said. “So, it’s good to have a couple weeks just to work on some things and make sure we have the right guys in the lineup in this game, guys that are going to fight.”
The Revs’ poor start has caught the attention of the media, most notably Apple TV broadcaster Taylor Twellman.
On March 10th, Twellman said, “Caleb Porter was hired to bring an MLS Cup. That is what he has done throughout his entire career – third year with the Portland Timbers, his second year with the Columbus Crew.
"Yet when you go back to the Columbus Crew and now to the Revolution, Caleb Porter has missed the playoffs three straight years. The pressure is on Caleb Porter to right the ship.”
On March 15th, the Revs got on the scoresheet for the first time when New York City FC defender Thiago Martins scored an own goal by mishandling a cross from Brandon Bye. New York ultimately prevailed, winning 2-1, moving the Revs to 0-3-1 on the season.
On Tuesday, Porter was asked if he feels any additional pressure heading into Saturday’s game against the Red Bulls.
“Not any more than the pressure I feel every single day,” Porter said. “At the end of the day, I want to do well. At the end of the day, I want to win. The external noise, I don’t even have social media, so I don’t read anything and there’s nothing external that changes my mindset at all – zero.”
Jackson Yueill noted that pressure comes in many different forms.
“I think the pressure comes internally first, but of course we want to win and show our fans that we’re a really good team and good players,” Yueill said.
The Revolution's season is still young, having only played four games. That said, only two of their next seven matches are at Gillette Stadium.
“We know that it’s a long season, but it’s important to get points early and often,” Yueill said. “We have a couple of road games coming, so we want to take advantage of the home games.
“It’s soccer and you have ups and downs. We want to turn this around and get on our front foot and start playing as well as we can, because we know we’re a good team. That’s the pressure that we put on ourselves. We have a high standard and we have to live up to that.”
"...we have the right guys in the lineup in this game, guys that are going to fight.”
So we don't have the right guys and they are not fighting. Exactly whose job is it to get these things right? This guy is unbelievable. And by that I mean you can't believe a thing he says.
Porter has become someone where if I hear or read a quote from him I cringe. So arrogant. Doesn’t matter that he won cups in the past, right now he sucks. And he has sucked for a few years now. Sort of like a washed up player who still have 100% confidence and is arrogant about it even though the stats don’t match that.
