Revolution II's Road Woes Continue
A depleted Revs II side saw their winless streak on the road extend to an 18th game.
Richie Williams and New England Revolution II hit the road on Sunday, when they traveled to MSU Soccer Park in Montclair, New Jersey, looking for their first road win in 630 days to take on New York Red Bulls II.
With the first team set to resume Open Cup action against the Chicago Fire on Tuesday, Williams was forced to make eight changes. With most of his regulars out, Williams turned to the Revolution’s Academy.
Rookie Donovan Parisian made his fourth appearance for Revs II as he started in goal behind the backline of Hesron Barry, Gabe Dahlin, and Academy prospects Javaun Mussende and Josh Macedo. Alex Monis returned to the lineup as he and Academy prospects Levi Katsell and Josh Partal formed the midfield. Academy prospects Judah Siqueira, Robert Nichols III, and Cristiano Carlos formed the attacking trio up top.
After several chances, New York Red Bulls II found the breakthrough in the 37th minute thanks to a lucky deflection. It started when Jiménez’s shot deflected into the path of an open Tanner Rosborough, who slotted it home to give Red Bulls II a 1-0 lead.
After finding the opener minutes earlier, Rosborough found his second of the day in the 39th minute. It started with Andy Rojas pushing up the left flank before cutting in and slotting a ball to Rosborough. After getting a couple of touches on the ball, Rosborough gained possession and drilled the ball past Parisian to give Red Bulls II a 2-0 lead.
The 59th minute saw Williams make three changes. Marcos Dias, Bryan Norena, and Edwin Flores replaced Levi Katsell, Alex Monis, and Robert Nichols II. It marked Norena and Flores' professional debuts.
Revolution II’s troubles continued in the 66th minute when a series of intricate passes led the ball to the feet of Jiménez, who drilled the ball home to give Red Bulls II a 3-0 lead.
The 71st minute saw another debut as Enzo Gonçalves replaced Judah Siqueira. It didn't take long for him to make an impact. The 77th minute saw him get on the end of a loose ball and drive forward before slotting the ball past Aidan Stokes to make it 3-1 Red Bulls II.
But Revs II’s night got worse in the 86th minute when Copeland Berkley found the net to give New York a 4-1 lead.
Considering the amount of turnover and the fact that the game saw eight debuts, it wasn’t much of a surprise to see New York Red Bulls II walk away with the 4-1 victory, but you have to credit the young squad's effort.
With the 4-1 loss, Revolution II’s winless streak on the road extends to 18 matches. It’s a streak they’ll look to extinguish when they reach the midpoint of their five-game road trip on Saturday, May 24th, as they face independent side Chattanooga FC.
