Revolution II vs Atlanta United 2: Three Thoughts
Three thoughts following Revs II's latest outing!
New England Revolution II’s hot streak continued on Wednesday as goals from Marcos Dias, Malcolm Fry, and Liam Butts propelled Revs II to a dominant 3-0 victory at home that extended their unbeaten run to five games while picking up a fourth consecutive victory.
Here are three thoughts.
1 - Play The Kids
Wednesday’s thrilling 3-0 victory truly highlighted the skills of first-team youngsters like Eric Klein, Allan Oyirwoth, Malcolm Fry, Damario McIntosh, and Donovan Parisian.
The duo of Klein and Oyirwoth was a true presence on both sides of the ball. Oyirwoth ended the match with the most tackles (five) and won the most duels (14). He also completed 47 of 53 attempted passes to finish a hair below 90% accuracy. Klein ended the day with nine defensive actions while completing 38 of 46 passes.
Damario McIntosh’s work on the wing saw him complete 22 of 27 attempted passes along with two successful crosses, one successful dribble, and five defensive actions.
Not much was required of Donovan Parisian, but he did make two great saves to keep the clean sheet and secure donuts.
Last but not least was Malcolm Fry, who scored the second goal of the day. It marked his fourth goal in just six appearances this year.
It’s no secret that the 2025 season has been a rough one for the first team. With 10 games left, they find themselves 10 points removed from the final wild card spot. It’s safe to say the season is nearing its mathematical end.
Once that point does come, I want to see the guys listed above, plus some other names, get some first-team reps to help further their development.
2 - Heat Wave
Just like the New England summer weather, New England Revolution II has been HOT as of late.
Their 3-0 win marks the fourth consecutive victory for Revolution II, which is the third time the club has amassed a four-game win streak.
It couldn’t come at a better time for Revolution II. They now find themselves in fourth place with 33 points on an 8-4-5 record, along with four shootout victories, while having as many as three games on hand compared to some other Eastern Conference clubs.
A big reason for Revolution II’s recent success has been the ability to start games strongly. All five games in their ongoing undefeated run saw Revs II find the opening goal, which has allowed them to maintain control of games.
With 11 games left in the regular season, let's hope this streak can continue and lead Revolution II to its second playoff berth in club history.
3 - Sharod’s Simplicity
Wednesday’s match saw 21-year-old Sharod George make his Revolution II debut when he replaced Malcolm Fry in the 63rd minute.
It was a decent debut for George. He ended the day completing six of 10 passes while getting 13 touches and one clearance.
His biggest impact on the game came in the 74th minute when he was at the right place at the right time and attempted to get on the end of a deflected shot from Cristiano Oliveira.
Despite the ball being a distance away, George fully utilized his staggering 6-foot-5 frame and stretched his leg to get on the end of the loose ball and send a shot toward goal that forced Jonathan Ransom to make a save.
While being incredibly fresh to this Revs II side, I thought Sharod did a pretty good job for his first game. Especially when it came to his positioning.
Once Sharod gets a few more reps under his belt, I think he’ll grow into a solid producer for this Revolution II side.
