Revolution II Secure First Road Victory of 2025
A hard-fought 90 minutes leads Revs II to their first victory since August of 2023!
New England Revolution II returned to action on Saturday, looking to end the month of May on a positive note when they traveled to Belson Stadium in Queens to take on New York City FC II.
Richie Williams made three changes from last Saturday’s 1-0 loss on the road to Chattanooga. Max Weinstein made his first appearance of the 2025 season as he got the start in goal behind the backline of Damario McIntosh, Victor Souza, Gabe Dahlin, and Aidan Reilly. It marked Reilly’s first professional start and came a week after making his professional debut with the club.
Allan Oyirwoth, Javaun Mussenden, and Alex Monis started in the midfield behind the attacking trio of Liam Butts, Marcos Dias, and Gevork Diarbian.
Reilly received the game’s first booking in the 30th minute as head referee Izlen Peksenar handed the defender a yellow card following a foul on an advancing Chris Tiao.
A series of passes in the 34th minute nearly led NYC to find the opener as the ball fell to Sebastiano Musu yards away from goal. Luckily for New England, Weinstein was there to make the close-range save.
The 35th minute nearly saw Revolution II find the first goal of the game. After finding a pocket of space outside the box, all-time leading goal scorer Dias attempted to laser a shot into the upper half of the net but put too much on it as it narrowly sailed over the crossbar.
Williams made one change before the start of the second half as Josh Partal replaced Monis. Williams went to the bench again in the 74th minute as Malcolm Fry replaced Butts. It marked Fry’s first appearance of 2025 as the first team Homegrown had been dealing with a leg injury.
Fry attempted to get Revolution II ahead in the 82nd minute when he received the ball and pushed his way into the box. Unfortunately for Fry, he directed his shot right at Alex Rando.
Marcos Dias came close to finding the opening goal in the 83rd minute when he attempted to curl a shot to the left side of the net. Unfortunately, it deflected off a NYCFC II player and away from goal.
Another change came in the 87th minute when Cristiano Carlos replaced Dahlin as he was unable to continue after getting checked out by the medical staff.
Just as it looked as if the match would end in a scoreless draw and push Revolution II’s road winless streak to 20 matches, Fry had other ideas.
It started when Fry executed a series of give-and-go passes with Partal, which led the ball to Fry on the right side of the box. Fry then slotted the ball under a diving Rando and into the net to give Revolution II a 1-0 lead.
The final change came in stoppage time when Michael Tsicoulias replaced Oyirwoth. It marked Tsicoulias' first appearance with the club since July 23, 2021.
After 19 straight games without a win on the road, Revolution II finally put their road woes to rest as they secured their first three points away from home since August 27, 2023.
Revolution II will look to build off Saturday’s success when they put their five-game road trip to bed on June 8 when they face Chicago Fire II.
