Revolution II Reflect On Recent Offensive Struggles
Hear what Richie Williams and Liam Butts had to say after offensive struggles led to a disappointing shutout loss at home.
Last week’s return to Gillette Stadium was an incredibly difficult one for Revolution II as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of last-placed FC Cincinnati 2.
Despite putting seven of their 19 shots on target, Revs II came up short on the scoresheet as Cincinnati kept the clean sheet and walked away with all three points following a 1-0 victory.
The common theme during postgame interviews with head coach Richie Williams and players was their inability to capitalize on good offensive chances.
Richie Williams told The Blazing Musket he’s talked with his team about someone having to step up and take responsibility on offense.
“I talk to the team, like, somebody has to take responsibility to put the ball in the back of the net,” he said. “It’s not just our attacking players. It’s our midfielders. It’s our defender. Plenty of chances to go around throughout the year.
“You’re not going to be able to win a soccer game if you can't score a goal,” he added. “It’s something they got to keep working on.”
Willaims believes improved focus on the small details will go a long way in improving the offense.
“It’s something they got to keep working on,” the head coach said. “When they have these situations in training, they have to do better with it. I think sometimes when they're in training, they think, okay, if we don't score a goal in training or we don't get a good final pass in on training, it's not a big deal because we'll do it in a game, but that's not the way it works. You have to do it in training, every week and on a consistent basis and then it'll end up in the game.”
Revolution II will get another opportunity to improve their offense when they face Philadelphia Union II on the road on June 26.
