For the final time in the 2025 regular season, Richie Williams and New England Revolution II take the field at Gillette Stadium as they prepare to wrap up the campaign and aim to hoist the MLS NEXT Pro Cup. Catch up on everything you need to know ahead of Friday’s match.
Opponent: Crown Legacy FC
Date: Friday, September 26th
Time: 3:00 PM ET
Venue: Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts
Broadcast: MLS Season Pass - Apple TV
Weather: Despite fall’s arrival, things will feel summerlike on Friday. Temps will start out in the low 80s and remain in the high 70s throughout the afternoon. Rain could be a possibility as showers are expected just before kickoff as the chance for precipitation lingers in the 35% to 40% range throughout the afternoon.
New England Revolution II:
Williams and Revs II return to action after seeing a three-game winning streak and a seven-game unbeaten run snapped after a disappointing 3-1 loss to FC Cincinnati 2 on the road.
Despite Michael Tsicoulias finding his first goal of the season to give New England a 1-0 lead just before halftime, a dominant second half saw the home side find the back of the net three times.
Following Sunday’s defeat to Cincinnati, Revs II find themselves in third place in the Eastern Conference with 51 points on a 13-5-8 record with five shootout victories.
Unfortunately for Revs II, it appears their aspirations of obtaining the top spot in the East might be out of reach. With two games left, they trail first-placed Red Bulls II by four points, meaning a poor result against Crown Legacy, or Red Bulls II securing three points over FC Cincinnati 2, would see the chance of finishing first dissipate.
Friday could be a historic day as a win over Crown Legacy would mark the club’s 14th win of the season. It would tie the club record for most wins in a season, which the 2023 squad set.
A win would also keep Revs II on pace to break their single-season point record. With 51, they’re just five points shy of the record of 56 set during the 2023 season.
Speaking of history, forward Liam Butts will look to make some. With 11 goals on the year, he’s just one shy of tying the record for most goals in a season. A record set by Jordan Adebayo-Smith, who netted 12 goals during his lone season with the club in 2023.
A goal from Butts would also see him increase his all-time total to 17, which would tie former Homegrown Damian Rivera for the second-most goals in club history.
With 103 saves with the club, JD Gunn finds himself just two saves away from tying Joe Rice for the second-most saves in club history.
Crown Legacy FC:
2025 has been a rough year for Gary Dicker and his Crown Legacy side. They come into Friday’s match in 13th place with 27 points on a 6-13-8 record with three shootout victories and find themselves eliminated from playoff contention.
CLFC will look to end their 2025 campaign on a strong note and snap a four-game losing skid. Since securing a dominant 6-0 win over Inter Miami CF II on August 22nd, Crown Legacy has gone on to suffer a 1-0 loss to OCB, a 4-3 loss to Carolina Core FC, a 4-2 loss to Chattanooga FC, and a 1-0 loss to Atlanta United 2.
While 2025 hasn’t gone well for the group as a collective, there are still some names New England has to keep an eye on. Forward Dylan Sing leads the club with eight goals in 26 appearances.
Forward Emmanuel Uchegbu has six goals on the year, while midfielder Andrej Subotić has five. Defender Jack Neely and midfielder Thiago Rodrigues each have four on the year.
Looking at the stats, it’s clear to see why 2025 hasn’t gone well for Crown Legacy. While they rank in the middle of the pack at 16th for goals per match (1.6), they tie for the seventh-most conceded per match (2.0).
While they sit toward the middle in most offensive statistics, their defense may be the key to 2025’s struggles. They have the eighth-fewest interceptions per match (8.1), complete the eighth-fewest tackles per match (15.7), complete the second-fewest clearances per match (16.6), tie for the 10th-most fouls per match (14.6), tie for the fourth-most penalties conceded (8), and tie for the fifth-most red cards (5).
Previous Meetings:
Friday will mark the fifth all-time meeting between New England and Crown Legacy. CLFC holds the historical advantage with three wins in the first four meetings.
The inaugural meeting, held on July 12, 2023, saw goals from Marcos Dias, Jordan Adebayo-Smith, and Peyton Miller lead Revolution II to a 3-1 win.
Things have been downhill since, as Crown Legacy has won the last three outings between the two sides, picking up 1-0, 2-1, and 5-3 victories.
Great writing!
