New England Revolution II:
As mentioned in the introduction, things didn’t go to plan for Revs II during Sunday’s meeting with Crew 2.
Despite Damorney Hutchinson giving the team a 2-1 lead in the closing minutes, it was undone in stoppage time when a failed clearance led to Chase Adams securing his second goal of the match to secure a 2-2 draw at the end of regulation. Revs II thankfully stood tall in the shootout as they secured the additional point following a 5-4 victory following six rounds.
Following Sunday’s result, Revs II comes into Friday’s match in fifth place with 35 points on an 8-5-6 record with five shootout victories.
A big factor into Revolution II’s success in 2025 has been their ability to keep balls out of the back of the net. Their 1.3 goals conceded per match is the fourth lowest in MLS NEXT Pro. They are also tied for the third-most clean sheets with six through 19 matches this season.
On top of solid defense, the offense has been productive throughout 2025. They find themselves tied for the third most penalties awarded with seven, rank eighth for touches in the opposition’s box with 509, and rank seventh for most corners with 102.
Another game means another opportunity for Marcos Dias to come closer to probably the last possible record he can break for the club. With 87 appearances, Friday could see him make an 88th. A figure that would put him four appearances away from Colby Quiñones’ record of 92.
Liam Butts will look to inch closer to making history of his own. With eight goals on the year, Butts is on the verge of becoming just the second player in club history to amass double-digit goals in a single season. Jordan Adebayo-Smith was the first and only to do so when he bagged 12 goals in his lone season with the club in 2023.
Friday could also see the return of JD Gunn in between the pipes. Gunn has not seen the field in the last four matches and was not a part of the game day roster for two of the four. Whether it’s Gunn or Parisian in net, expect either to bring their A-game on Friday.
New York Red Bulls II
2025 has been a tremendous season for Red Bulls II. They come into Friday’s match atop the Eastern Conference table with 45 points on a 13-4-4 record with two shootout victories.
USMNT legend Michael Bradley’s coaching tenure has been mostly successful since taking the reins of NYRB II at the end of June. In his eight games at the helm, Bradley has amassed a 4-2-2 record.
Looking at the stats, it’s clear to see why New York Red Bulls II find themselves in first. Their 2.4 goals per match tie for the third most. Red Bulls II also tie for fifth in shots on target (5.8), first in big chances (72), and tie for sixth in penalties awarded (6).
On top of stellar offense, Red Bulls II's defense has also been productive. They rank first in interceptions per match (11.5) and successful tackles per match (13.5), and rank third in clearances per match (23.8).
There are so many names Revolution II has to keep an eye out for. A staggering five players have five or more goals on the season.
One of Red Bulls II’s most impactful players this season has been midfielder Nehuén Benedetti, who has seven goals and six assists in 17 appearances. Tanner Rosborough also ties Benedetti for the club’s leading scorer with seven goals in 12 appearances.
Forward Rafael Mosquera has also been a big contributor to this Red Bulls II side as he’s tallied six goals and seven assists in 16 appearances.
Previous Meetings
Friday will mark the eighth all-time meeting between New England and New York. Red Bulls II have the firm historical advantage with a 4-2-1 record through the first seven meetings.
Oladayo Thomas’ lone strike was the deciding factor in the inaugural meeting as New York walked away with a 1-0 victory on April 21, 2023. Red Bulls II secured victory again on June 4, 2023, as a trio of goals in the opening half paved the way to a 4-1 victory. It looked as if Revs II would secure victory on August 6, 2023, but a stoppage-time strike from O’Vonte Mullings led to a 1-1 draw. Red Bulls II took home the additional point following a 4-3 shootout victory.
October 6, 2023, marked the most pivotal meeting in the series as they met in the 2023 Eastern Conference Semifinal. Revolution II kept their playoff hopes alive as goals from Malcolm Fry and Victor Souza led to a 2-1 victory. Maciel’s lone strike in the 40th minute led New England to a 1-0 victory on June 14, 2024.
Red Bulls II got back into the win column with a 3-1 victory on September 29, 2024. Friday marks the second meeting in 2025. The first came on May 18 when a depleted Revolution II side suffered a 4-1 defeat.
