New England Revolution II:
Revolution II returns to action after travel issues for Huntsville forced their June 29th meeting to be postponed.
New England comes into Saturday’s match sitting in ninth place in the Eastern Conference with 21 points on a 4-4-5 record with four shootout victories.
The most recent outing came on June 26 when they saw a 2-0 lead slip away as Revs II secured one point following a 2-2 draw against Philadelphia Union II. Philly took the additional point following a 7-6 shootout victory.
Revolution II will see goalkeeper JD Gunn rejoin the club after returning from international duty. Despite not seeing the field, Gunn was a part of Panama’s run that saw them secure nine points in the group stage before suffering a devastating loss to Guatemala in penalties. 2025 has seen Gunn tally 18 saves and two clean sheets in five appearances.
One name who won’t feature on Saturday is goalkeeper Max Weinstein. The 21-year-old keeper was loaned out to Estonian side Kalev Tallin on Thursday. Weinstein’s time with Revs II has seen him tally 101 saves and six clean sheets over 27 appearances.
Alex Monis’ status is unknown ahead of Saturday’s match. The forward has missed the past three games due to an unknown injury, but has recently returned to practice. Hopefully, Saturday’s meeting with Columbus sees Monis return to the pitch.
Saturday could see Marcos Dias break another record. Dias comes into the match with 14 assists in his Revs II career and trails Jake Rozhansky’s record of 15 assists by one. It would mark the fourth record Dias has set with the club.
2024 saw him set the record for goals, which has since risen to 28 and counting. 2025 has seen him set records for the most starts and minutes played.
Columbus Crew 2:
2025 has been a rough outing for Federico HiguaÃn and the Capybaras. Crew 2 comes into Saturday’s match at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with 13 points on a 3-7-3 record with one shootout victory.
While their overall season has been poor, Crew 2 comes into the match having avoided losses in two of their last three outings. June 12 saw them secure a 1-1 draw and 5-4 shootout victory before picking up their third win of the season on June 28th with a 1-0 win over independent side Carolina Core FC.
Historic Crew 2 has seen all of Crew 2’s success in 2025, as all three wins have come at home for the Capybaras.
Crew 2’s inability to score has been what’s cost them this season. They average one goal per match after scoring 13 times in their opening 13 games. A figure that ranks fourth for the fewest goals per match.
On top of a low goals per match figure, they take the fewest shots on target per match (3.3), complete the fifth fewest accurate long balls per match (19.8), complete the third fewest crosses per match (2.7), have had the fourth fewest touches in the opposition’s box (269), and are tied for the fewest corners (48).
While the offense hasn’t produced much, their defense has been quite solid despite their record. They rank 12th for the most interceptions (9.8), rank fifth for most successful tackles per match (12.8), are tied for 15th in clearances per match (19.9), and rank fourth in saves per match (4.2).
Chase Adams is a player New England will have to keep an eye on. The forward has bagged four of Crew 2’s 13 goals on the year in just nine appearances.
Previous Meetings:
Saturday will mark the 10th all-time meeting between New England and Columbus. Crew 2 has firm control of the series with a 7-1-1 record against Revs II.
Their inaugural meeting came on May 8, 2022, when a brace from Noah Fuson plus goals from Marco Micaletto and Jacen Russell-Rowe led Columbus to a 4-0 win.
Revs II went on to suffer a 4-1 and 3-0 loss before picking up their first and only victory to date on May 25, 2023, thanks to goals from Jordan Adebayo-Smith and Ben Awashie.
Crew 2 went on to win the next four meetings while outscoring New England nine to three.
Saturday will mark the second time both sides have met in 2025. April 3 saw things go slightly better for New England with goals from Liam Butts and Cristiano Oliveira leading Revs II to a point following a 2-2 draw. Revs II secured the additional point thanks to a 4-1 shootout victory.
