New England Revolution II:
Revs II come into Wednesday’s match on a hot streak that’s seen them go undefeated in their previous four games with wins in their last three. A streak that has led New England to enter Wednesday’s match in sixth place with 30 points on a 7-4-5 record with four shootout victories.
After opening their three-game road trip with a 2-2 draw and shootout loss to Philadelphia Union II, Revs II went on to secure a 2-1 win over Crew 2, followed by a 4-3 victory over Chicago Fire II.
Their most recent outing saw Revs II handle business in their return to Gillette Stadium as Gevork Diarbian’s first career brace, plus a goal from a returning Alex Monis, led New England to a 3-0 win last Sunday.
Wednesday’s match could see forward Sharod George make his debut with the club. The 21-year-old signed with Revolution II on July 17th, but did not feature in July 20th’s win over Orlando City B.
It could also see some returns. This past week saw Cristiano Oliveira and Josh Macedo represent the organization during the 2025 MLS NEXT All-Star Game! Cristiano Oliveira made his impact on the game during the final play of the first half.
This past week saw Revolution II represented during the MLS All-Star Week festivities in Austin. Midfielder Cristiano Oliveira and Academy defender Josh Maceco represented the Revs during the MLS NEXT All-Star Game.
Oliveira started for the East and made his impact felt on the final play of the first half. A free kick opportunity led to the ball being lobbed into the box from distance that fell right to the 17-year-old. Oliveira took an awkward initial touch on the ball, but recovered just in time to turn and rocket it into the back of the net to level the match at one apiece.
Defender Josh Macedo came on before the second half and helped guide the East to a 4-3 victory.
Atlanta United 2:
2025 hasn’t been a tremendous season for Atlanta. 16 games into the season, Atlanta finds itself in 13th place with 19 points on a 3-5-8 record with two shootout victories.
Despite their overall record, Atlanta has managed a decent run in recent weeks. They come into Wednesday’s match amidst a three-game unbeaten streak.
The club picked up on point on July 9th following a scoreless draw and shootout loss to FC Cincinnati 2. July 13th saw Atlanta pick up its third win of the season after securing a 3-2 victory over Columbus Crew 2. Their most recent outing saw them secure one point following a 1-1 draw and shootout loss to Carolina Core FC.
Atlanta United 2 saw one major change in the lead-up to Wednesday’s match. The club announced that head coach Steve Cooke departed Atlanta to take an Academy and Youth Technical Director role with USL Championship side Lexington Sporting Club on July 23.
With Cooke gone, assistant coach Jose Silva will serve as the club’s interim head coach. Wednesday will mark his first game at the helm of Atlanta United 2 since the switch.
While 2025 hasn’t been great for Atlanta as a collective, Revs II can’t overlook some individual performers. Forward Rodrigo Neri leads Atlanta with five goals and an assist over 16 appearances. Forward Cayman Togashi has three goals and four assists in just seven appearances. Midfielder Javier Armas has three goals and three assists in 15 appearances.
Looking at the stats, it's clear why 2025 has not gone well for. While they rank high in stats like goals conceded per match (1.6, tied for 11th), average possession (53.4%, 7th), and shots on target per match (5.9, tied for third most), the defense is what has plagued them.
They average 8.3 interceptions per match, which is tied for the eighth fewest. Their 13.9 clearances per match are the lowest in MLS NEXT Pro. They also average 3.3 saves per match, which ranks 14th.
Previous Meetings:
Wednesday will mark the fourth all-time meeting between Atlanta. Revs II holds the slight historical advantage with a 2-1-0 record in the first three meetings.
Their inaugural meeting on March 26, 2023, saw goals from Jake Rozhansky, Pierre Cayet, plus an own goal from Atlanta, propel New England to a 3-2 win on the road.
August 13, 2023, saw pure domination lead New England to victory. Goals from Damian Rivera, Esmir Bajraktarević, Noble Okello, and a brace from Jordan Adebayo-Smith led Revs II to a 5-1 victory at home.
Their most recent outing saw Atlanta take home all three points. Despite late goals from Liam Butts and Alex Monis, it wasn’t enough to overcome an early strike from Karim Tmimi and Alan Carleton’s brace as Atlanta held off Revs II to secure a 3-2 victory on August 4th, 2024.
