New England Revolution II:
Revs II comes into Sunday’s match flying high following a successful three-game road trip that saw them secure seven of nine points.
After picking up a singular point against Philadelphia on June 16, Revs II rebounded in their July 5th meeting with Columbus Crew 2. Just as it looked as if the club was destined for a second consecutive draw, a stoppage-time strike from Cristiano Oliveira propelled New England to a 2-1 victory.
Their most recent outing was a wild affair in Chicago. Revs II began the match with two goals in the opening six minutes thanks to Cristiano Oliveira and Malcolm Fry.
Despite Chicago clawing back with two goals of their own, Liam Butts helped regain the lead right before halftime and extended it in the 53rd minute. While Chicago scored in the closing minutes, Revs II held on to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory.
Following last Sunday’s result, Revs II comes into this match in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 27 points on a 6-4-5 record with four shootout victories.
A big part of Revs II’s success this season has been the offensive efforts of Liam Butts. Following a debut season hindered by injuries, Butts has come into 2025 on a tear. Through 13 appearances, Butts has tallied a team-leading seven goals and is tied for seventh place in the MLS NEXT Pro Golden Boot race.
After scoring five goals in 11 appearances last year, it’s tremendous to see the forward keep up his offensive.
Marcos Dias has also been a big contributor to this Revs II side. Through 15 appearances, Dias has tallied four goals and five assists. A figure that sees him tied for the sixth-most assists in MLS NEXT Pro.
The defense has been just as impactful. Their 1.5 goals conceded per match is tied for the fourth fewest. They’re also tied for the seventh most clean sheets with four. They also average 9.8 interceptions per match, which ties for ninth.
Sunday could see Sharod George make his club debut. The 21-year-old forward inked a deal through the end of the 2025 season with a club option for 2026. George joins New England on Thursday after beginning his career in the lower divisions of Germany and amateur levels in Greece.
It could also be a historic day for Marcos Dias as the forward is one assist shy of tying Jake Rozhansky’s record of 15.
With a goal in each of Revs II’s last two games, midfielder Cristiano Oliveira has a chance to become the third player in Revolution II history to score in three consecutive games. Jordan Adebayo-Smith became the first to do so after scoring in three straight games in 2023. Liam Butts has pulled off the feat twice. The first came during the final three matches of the 2024 season, with the most recent spell coming at the end of April and into May.
Status for forward Alex Monis and defender Victor Souza are unknown entering Sunday. Monis has missed the last five matches with an unknown injury. Souza has missed the past two matches with an unknown injury. Hopefully, the duo will be available to return on Sunday.
Orlando City B:
2025 has been a mixed bag of results for Manuel Goldberg and his OCB side. They come into Sunday’s match right behind Revs II in seventh place in the East. They hold 26 points on the season thanks to a 7-7-3 record with two shootout victories.
A big factor in OCB’s success this year has been the efforts of Shak Mohammed and Justin Ellis. The pair hold a team-high seven goals each, while Ellis has three assists to his name.
Goalkeeping efforts from Carlos Mercedo. The 25-year-old has made 13 appearances for OCB in 2025, where he has amassed the third-highest save percentage at 75%. Mercado also has the most saves per match with 5.3. His 70 saves on the year are the third-most in MLS NEXT Pro.
As a collective unit, OCB is around the midpoint in most stats. However, they do have some outliers. Their five penalties awarded tie for the fifth most in MLS NEXT Pro. Their 323 touches in the opposition's box is the fourth-fewest.
Their defense is a bit below par as they tie for the second fewest interceptions per match with 7.4. They also complete the fewest successful tackles per match with 8.5.
Like Revs II, Orlando comes into Sunday’s match amidst a three-game unbeaten run. It began on June 30th when they played to a 1-1 draw against Union II. July 6th saw another draw as they played to a 2-2 draw against Crown Legacy FC. July 13th saw their return home end successfully thanks to a 3-1 win over independent side Carolina Core FC.
