Weather: Sunday looks to be a hot one in Bridgeview. Temps come kickoff will sit in the mid 80s and remain there throughout the afternoon. The good news for Revs II is no rain or severe weather is expected.
New England Revolution II:
Richie Williams and Revs II come into Sunday’s match in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 24 points on a 5-4-5 record and four shootout victories.
Despite their turbulent record, Revs II has experienced success in recent weeks. They come into Sunday’s match looking to extend their undefeated streak to three games.
After securing a 2-2 draw and suffering a 7-6 shootout loss, Revs II recovered in their latest match when a late goal from Cristiano Oliveira in stoppage time led New England to a 2-1 win on the road against Columbus Crew 2.
Revolution II's offensive success this year has come from Liam Butts and Marcos Dias. Butts’ sophomore season sees him leading the club with five goals in 12 appearances. Club legend Dias sits right behind Butts with four goals in 14 appearances. Dias also leads the club and is tied for sixth in MLS NEXT Pro in assists with five.
Speaking of Dias’ assists, with 14 career assists, he’s just one away from tying former midfielder Jake Rozhansky’s record of 15.
On top of some stellar offense, defense has been just as pivotal. Revs II's 18 goals conceded in 2025 tie for the fourth-fewest allowed across MLS NEXT Pro, while their four clean sheets are tied for the fifth-most in the league.
Statuses for forward Alex Monis and defender Victor Souza are unknown. Monis has missed the last four matches with his last appearance coming in May 31st’s 1-0 win over NYCFC II. Souza was a surprising absence from July 5th’s win over Crew 2.
Chicago Fire FC II:
The first half of 2025 was a good one for Mike Matkovich and Fire II as the club comes into Sunday’s match in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 27 points on a 7-4-4 record with two shootout victories.
On top of a good record, Fire II comes into the game amidst an impressive nine-game undefeated streak that’s seen them go 5-0-4 since the streak began on May 2nd. The ongoing undefeated streak has seen Chicago outscore their opposition 22 to nine.
Chicago’s offensive success has come from the production of Jason Shokalook, Claudio Cassano, Jean Diouf, and Trip Flemming. Shokalook leads Fire II with five goals across 13 appearances. Cassano, Diouf, and Flemming sit right behind Shokalook with four each.
Additionally, Cassano leads the club with six assists while Shokalook, Flemming, Peter Soudan, and Vitaliy Hlyut have two each.
While Chicago ranks in the top 10 in MLS NEXT Pro in stats like interceptions per match, successful tackles per match, clearances per match, and saves per match, their Achilles heel is discipline. Their two red cards on the year tie for the fifth most. They’ve also conceded the second-most penalties with six.
A big part of their success on defense has come from keeper Patrick Los. Los has started all 15 games for Fire II and is tied for the sixth-most clean sheets with three. His 51 saves are the fifth-most in MLS NEXT Pro.
Previous Meetings:
Sunday will mark the ninth all-time meeting between New England and Chicago. It’s been an even series as each side holds a 2-2-4 record against the other.
Their inaugural meeting was an action-packed one as both sides exchanged goals before Chicago walked away with a 4-3 victory on June 26th, 2022. Pierre Cayet’s lone strike was the deciding factor on August 14th, 2022, as New England secured the 1-0 win at home.
Both meetings in 2023 resulted in both sides splitting points. June 11th saw Revs II take home two points following a 2-2 draw and a 4-3 shootout victory. June 30th saw Chicago take home two points after a 1-1 draw and a 5-3 shootout victory.
Revolution II history was made during their meeting on May 4th, 2024. Marcos Dias drilled home a penalty kick in stoppage time to propel Revs II to a 3-2 victory. It also saw the forward score his record-breaking 18th goal for the club.
New England has gone winless in the last three meetings with Chicago. Sunday will mark the second meeting of the 2025 season. The first came on June 9th when goals from Academy prospect Josh Macedo and Judah Siqueira helped secure a 2-2 draw in regulation. Revs II picked up the extra point following a 5-4 shootout victory.
