Revolution II Preview: 6/29 vs Huntsville City FC
Revs II return home, looking to wrap up their double-game week on a positive note.
After a disappointing outing on Thursday, Richie Williams and New England Revolution II return to action inside Gillette Stadium to wrap up the double-game week.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Sunday’s match!
Opponent: Huntsville City FC
Date: Sunday, June 29th
Time: 3:00 PM ET
Venue: Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts
Broadcast: MLS Season Pass - Apple TV
Weather: Sunday looks to be an extremely hot one inside Gillette. Kickoff will see the temperature will sit at 87° and remain in the upper 80s throughout the afternoon. Humidity will make it feel like the low 90s. Thankfully, for Revolution II’s sake, thunder is expected to clear the area in the morning hours and shouldn’t cause any delays.
New England Revolution II:
Revolution II’s week started on a strong note when they found themselves with a 2-0 lead come the 60th minute in their road meeting against Philadelphia Union II. Things then soured when two goals from Philadelphia in seven minutes led to the match ending in a 2-2 draw. Revs II came up short in the penalty shootout as a 7-6 defeat sent them home with a singular point.
Following the result, New England enters Sunday’s match in eighth place in the Eastern Conference with 21 points on a 4-4-5 record with four shootout victories.
Thursday’s result added to the rough spell of play the club has seen since May. The past seven matches have seen Revs II go 1-3-3 with two shootout victories.
One bright spot for this Revs II squad has been the efforts of Marcos Dias. The striker is second in goals for the club with four but leads the team in assists with five. A figure that ties for the third-most assists in MLS NEXT Pro.
Despite the result, Thursday’s match did see the long-awaited return of Damorney Hutchinson. The forward had missed five straight matches with an unknown injury but made his return when he subbed into the game in the 81st minute. Hutchinson capped off his return on a strong note when he found the back of the net to give Revs II the lead at the end of the third round of shutout.
Alex Monis’ status entering leg two of the double-game week is unknown. The midfielder has missed the past three matches with an unknown injury.
Goalkeeper JD Gunn will be unavailable on Sunday. Gunn is still on international duty with the Panama National Team, who booked their ticket to the knockout stage of the ongoing Concacaf Gold Cup tournament after finishing atop Group C.
Gunn and Panama will begin the knockout stage on Saturday, when they face Honduras and look to advance to the Semifinals.
Huntsville City FC:
2025 has gotten off to a good start for Chris O’Neil and his squad. Huntsville comes into Sunday’s match in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 23 points on a 5-3-5 record with three shootout victories.
O’Neil and Huntsville look to bounce back following a poor result of their own. A late goal from Crown Legacy led to a 3-3 draw in front of Huntsville’s fans. The ensuing shootout didn’t go in the home team’s favor as CLFC secured the additional point following a 4-3 shootout victory.
A big factor in Huntsville City's success in 2025 has been its ability to work both sides of the ball. They come into Sunday’s match averaging 2.1 goals per match, which ties for the fifth-most in MLS NEXT Pro. They also average 1.2 goals conceded per match, which ties for the third-fewest in the league.
Huntsville’s strategy is to control the game via possession. They average 61.3% possession, which is the highest in MLS NEXT Pro and is a whole 5.5% higher than second-placed City2.
They rank second for shots on target per match (6.5), complete the most passes per match (502.5), and have the most touches in the opposition’s box (456). Huntsville has also drawn the second-most penalties with six.
Two names Revs II will have to keep an eye on are Christian Koffi and Alan Carleton. Koffi enters Sunday’s game tied for seventh place in the Golden Boot race. Carleton has a modest four goals to his name but is a true facilitator with a team-leading four assists, which ties for sixth most in the league.
One name Revolution II will not have to worry about is Blake Bowen. The defender was sent off in stoppage time in their meeting against Crown Legacy after shoving a CLFC player to the ground in an altercation.
Bowen has been a consistent presence in Huntsville’s defense with appearances in all 13 matches for the club along with a team-leading 1,110 minutes clocked. It will be interesting to see what Huntsville’s defense looks like without one of their centerpieces.
Previous Meetings:
Sunday will mark the fourth all-time meeting between New England and Huntsville. No side holds the advantage as each has a 1-1-1 record against the other.
Neither side could find the net in regulation in their inaugural meeting on July 2, 2023, as things ended in a scoreless draw after 90. After a saved penalty in the fourth round, Brandonn Bueno secured Revs II the additional point as his penalty at the end of round five secured New England the 5-4 shootout victory.
Revs II sailed to a 3-0 victory in their meeting on September 1, 2023, thanks to Malcolm Fry, Jack Panayotou, and an own goal from Huntsville's Fernando Cicéron.
Their most recent meeting was on July 10, 2024, as Huntsville secured a 2-1 victory inside Gillette, thanks to goals from Jonathan Bollanos and Woobens Pacius.
