Revolution II:
It was a tale of two halves for Revs II in their meeting against Toronto FC II last Sunday as they quickly fell behind 1-0 after Matthew Catavolo found the back of the net off a perfectly placed free kick in the third minute. Things went from bad to worse in the 39th minute when Jesús Batiz let go a shot from just outside the box and into the net to give TFC II a 2-0 lead.
Damian Rivera stopped the bleeding for Revs II in the 44th minute as his attempted cross to the center of the box deflected off Markus Cimermancic and into the net to cut TFC II’s lead in half! It was a slow second half, but business picked up in the 84th minute when Rivera evaded the pressure and buried the ball into the back of the net to level the game. It was almost a case of déjà vu just a minute later as Rivera again avoided the pressure and buried another ball into the net to give Revs II a 3-2 lead and the eventual victory.
Sunday’s wild affair saw Revs II move to third place in the East as they hold a 4-3-1 record with one shootout victory.
Midfielder Jake Rozhansky comes into Sunday’s contest looking to make his 50th start for Revolution II. Since arriving in New England in 2021, Rozhansky has been one player Clint Peay has relied on. Through his fifty-two appearances, Rozhansky has notched one goal and eleven assists while clocking 4,117 minutes.
Defender Colby Quinones will look to clock his three-thousandth minute as the Bedford, New Hampshire native has clocked 2,987 over 56 appearances where he’s notched one goal and two assists.
Philadelphia Union II:
It’s been a rocky 2023 campaign for Martin LeBlanc and Union II as they enter Sunday’s contest in ninth place with ten points on a 2-4-2 record.
Philadelphia secured two points in their last outing against Inter Miami CF II after giving up the game-tying goal in the 81st minute, which led to a shootout. Philadelphia II secured the additional point after Lucas Meek’s penalty kick bounced off the post as Union II secured a 4-3 shootout victory.
Despite the lack of success, Union II has been kept afloat by the offensive efforts of Stefan Stojanovic and first-teamer Nelson Pierre, who have combined to net six of Philadelphia’s twelve goals.
Previous Meetings:
Sunday marks the fifth time New England and Philadelphia have met.
Their first meeting came on May 27th, 2022, as Meny Silva’s lone goal led Revolution II to a 1-0 victory.
Union II savagely ripped apart Revolution II on August 21st, 2022 as Philadelphia scored five unanswered goals before Quinones found the net in the closing minutes to avoid the shutout as Philadelphia walked away with a 5-1 victory.
Despite a goal from Ryan Lima, Union II secured their consecutive win over Revs II in the season finale on September 18th, 2022, as Union II walked away with a 3-1 victory.
Both sides have already met in 2023 as Revolution II repaid Philadelphia for their August 21st, 2022 victory as Damian Rivera, Jordan Adebayo-Smith, Esmir Bajraktarević, Malcolm Fry, and Brandonn Bueno combined to score five goals to secure Revs II a 5-1 victory.
