Revolution II Preview: 4/26 vs New York City FC
Revs II look to get back into the win column following a rocky outing against Crew 2.
It's a short turnaround for Revolution II as they wrap-up a two-game homestand just three days after a roller coaster of a result on Wednesday.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match.
Opponent: New York City FC II
Date: Saturday, April 26th
Time: 3:00 PM ET
Venue: Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts
Broadcast: MLS Season Pass - Apple TV
Weather: Conditions could get slippery inside Gillette. Rain will roll through the region throughout the morning. The chance for precipitation at kickoff will sit at 35% and steadily rise before rain is expected to roll back at 5 PM ET. Temperatures will remain in the low 60s throughout the match.
New England Revolution II:
Things didn’t go well when Revs II hosted Columbus Crew 2 on Wednesday.
It was an ugly start for Revs II as a free kick from yards outside the box led to Chris Rogers putting Crew 2 up just 42 seconds into the match.
The 22nd minute saw Revs II battle their way back when a breakaway opportunity saw Liam Butts net his third goal of the season.
In a fluky manner, Crew 2 regained the lead again when Chase Adams got on the end of a ball that ricocheted off the crossbar and headed a shot on target. Donovan Parisian got his hands to the header, but deflected it to the right goal post and in.
Just as it looked like Revs II would suffer a second consecutive defeat, great work on the wing led Eric Klein to send a perfect cross to Cristiano Oliveira, who leaped high into the air and headed the ball to the far post to level the match at two apiece.
With the 2-2 draw, things headed to a penalty shootout. Thanks to four great strikes from Marcos Dias, Damorney Hutchinson, Victor Souza, and Eric Klein, plus two missed shots from Columbus, Revolution II walked away with the additional point thanks to a 4-1 shootout victory.
Head Coach Richie Williams admitted he was disappointed in the result but did applaud his team’s effort to bounce back despite falling behind twice.
“I just told the guys I was disappointed and they should be too,” Williams said. “I like the fact we were able to fight back from two deficits and tie the game. It’s nice to get the extra point on penalties, but it’s a learning experience for these guys to develop.”
After entering a three-way tie for second-most appearances, Marcos Dias has the opportunity to take sole control of the number two spot as appearing in Saturday’s match will raise his total to 73 appearances
Unfortunately, the Revs II roster has shrunk since Wednesday. Former Academy product Olger Escobar’s time in New England ended on Thursday after the organization traded his Homegrown Priority Rights to CF Montreal in exchange for $125,000 of GAM, up to an additional $50,000 of conditional GAM, and a future sell-on percentage.
Escobar’s three seasons with Revolution II saw him tally one goal and one assist over 34 appearances.
New York City FC II
2025 has been a mixed bag of results for Matt Pilkington and NYCFC II. They come into Saturday’s match one spot below Revs II in the East in seventh with nine points on a 2-3-2 record with one shootout win.
After securing wins in two of their first three matches, NYCFC II has been on a skid ever since. They’re winless in their last four meetings, which saw them suffer a 3-2 loss to NYRB II, a 5-0 loss to Carolina Core, a 2-2 draw and shootout loss to FC Cincinnati 2, and a 4-1 loss to Philadelphia Union II.
Despite the results, NYCFC II’s offense has been productive. The club is tied for the third-most goals in the Eastern Conference with 11. Seymour Reid has been the most dominant for New York as he’s scored four goals thus far.
The problem for NYCFC II is defending. Through seven games, the club has allowed a staggering 17 goals in 2025, tied for the second-most in MLS NEXT Pro.
NYCFC is also tied for the sixth-fewest interceptions per match with 7.7, ranks ninth for fewest clearances per match with 16.8, tied for the eighth-most yellow cards with 12, and is tied for the second-most penalties conceded with two.
If they can avoid the mistakes experienced against Crew 2, Revs II should be able to secure all three points.
Previous Meetings:
Saturday will mark the ninth all-time meeting between New England and New York City. It’s been a nearly even series between both sides, but New York holds a slight advantage with a 3-2-3 record over Revs II.
Their last win over NYFCF II came on June 14th, 2023, when Malcolm Fry's lone goal in the 57th minute propelled New England to a 1-0 win.
