New England Revolution II:
Richie Williams' tenure has gotten off to a sour start as Revs II enters Friday’s match in 13th place in the Eastern Conference with three points on a 1-3-0 record.
Revs II comes into the match licking the wounds of a disastrous 6-2 loss on the road against New York City FC II. Despite Jack Panayotou getting Revolution II on the board in the eighth minute, NYC scored three unanswered goals before newcomer Gevork Diarbian netted his first professional goal. Despite reducing NYC’s lead to one, three more unanswered goals led to a disappointing 6-2 defeat.
Sunday’s abysmal defeat highlighted a poor start to the season that’s seen Revs II drop points after getting on the board early. Revs II have found the net in the first ten minutes in all four of their MLS NEXT Pro matches in 2024, yet they only have one win to their name and have been outscored 11-6 in that span.
Hopefully, Friday’s match will see Richie Williams and Revs II can use Friday’s road trip finale to right some of their early season woes.
Toronto FC II:
Gianni Cimini and TFC II enter Friday’s contest in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with three points on a 1-2-0 record. Like Revs II, TFC II has had issues maintaining pressure on their opposition after getting on the board first.
After starting their season with back-to-back 2-1 losses against Philadelphia Union II and Columbus Crew 2, Cimini and TFC II’s fortunes changed during their home opener against FC Cincinnati II on April 14th.
It started in the 12th minute when Charlie Sharp found the back of the net to give TFC II a 1-0 lead. Things only got better for Toronto when Markus Cimermancic doubled their lead in the 42nd minute. Despite Nico Benalcazar slotting home a penalty kick for Cincinnati in the 64th minute, TFC II stood tall as they walked away with their first win of the season.
Previous Meetings:
Friday marks the 11th meeting between New England and Toronto, which dates back to their time in USL League One.
Revolution II holds a slight advantage with a 4-3-3 record. Meetings between both sides have historically been low scoring as both teams have netted eight goals over the ten-game series.
