Alas, MLS NEXT Pro Decision Day is upon us. Despite having a berth in the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Cup Playoffs clinched for a while, New England Revolution II needs a good result on the road to find themselves in good standing come the playoffs. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Revolution II’s regular season finale.

Venue: Chase Stadium, Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Broadcast: MLS Season Pass - Apple TV
Weather: Weather could pose an issue in this one. Thunderstorms are forecasted to be in the Fort Lauderdale area come kickoff, but disappear come 2 PM. Sunday’s match will be a scorcher as temps will hover in the mid 80s throughout the afternoon while humidity remains above 70% percent
New England Revolution II:
While the 2025 season has been an overall improvement, Richie Williams’ side comes into Decision Day licking its wounds after suffering back-to-back defeats. After going unbeaten in seven games, a disappointing outing on September 21 saw them suffer a 3-1 loss to FC Cincinnati 2 on the road.
Revs II looked to avenge that during September 26th’s meeting against Crown Legacy, but offensive struggles and one simple mistake on defense led to Crown Legacy leaving Gillette Stadium with all three points following a 1-0 victory.
Sunday is the last chance for Liam Butts to etch his name atop the Revs II history book. With 11 goals on the year, he’s one shy of tying Jordan Adebayo-Smith’s single-season goal record of 12. A goal against Inter Miami II would also see his all-time tally rise to 17 and tie Damian Rivera for the second-most goals in club history.
A few names will be unavailable for the decisive Decision Day meeting. Midfielders Eric Klein, Cristiano Oliveira, and forward Makai Wells will be away on international duty. Forward Alex Monis could also miss the game due to international duty.
Revolution II enters Sunday’s finale in third place with 51 points on a 13-7-7 record with five shootout victories. Chattanooga is nipping at Revs II’s heels at fourth with an equal point total on a 13-6-8 record with four shootout wins.
Huntsville City SC is also within striking distance at fifth. They sit two points behind Revs II and Chattanooga with 49 on a 13-8-6 record with four shootout victories.
At the end of the day, New England needs to handle business and get all three points. The absolute worst-case scenario would see New England drop all three points to Miami, Chattanooga picking up any points in its home finale against Atlanta, and Huntsville picking up a regulation win over Carolina Core FC. If that were to happen, New England would drop to fifth place and lose home-field advantage in the opening round of the playoffs.
Inter Miami CF II:
2025 has been a rough season for Cristian Ledesma and his Inter Miami II side. They come into Sunday’s match in 14th place in the East with 25 points on a 6-15-6 record with one shootout victory.
On top of an overall bad season, Miami comes into Sunday’s finale with a seven-game winless streak that’s seen them go 0-4-3 while being outscored 22 to six.
Looking at the stats, it’s clear why 2025 hasn’t been successful. Their 1.4 goals per match is tied for fifth-fewest. They also concede the most goals per match with 2.5.
Inter Miami has the fewest shots on target per match (3.9), the second-fewest big chances (49), the fewest crosses per match (2.0), the fewest touches in the opposition’s box (472), and the fewest corner kicks (93).
While a lot has gone wrong as a collective, Inter Miami II still has some quality pieces that Revs II need to be cautious of. Forward Mateo Saja has bagged an impressive 11 goals in 26 appearances this season.
Previous Meetings:
Sunday’s Decision Day will mark the 10th all-time meeting between New England and Miami. A series that pre-dates both sides’ entry into MLS NEXT Pro.
New England has firm control of the series with a 7-2-0 record in the first nine meetings.
Goals from Nick Firmino, Justin Rennicks, Ryan Spaulding, and Tiago Mendonca led New England to victory in their inaugural meeting on October 9, 2020. New England’s defense stood tall in the following three meetings as Revs II secured back-to-back-to-back 1-0 shutout victories.
June 4, 2022, saw things swing in Miami’s favor as it secured a 2-0 shutout victory. August 7, 2022, saw Miami secure all three points following a 4-2 victory.
Revs II have secured victory in the three meetings with clean sheets in two.
