Revolution II Mutually Part Ways With Collin Smith
The defender's tenure comes to an end after one appearance. Smith will now play for USL Championship side Rhode Island FC.
Defender Collin Smith’s tenure with New England Revolution II came to an abrupt end Friday afternoon when the club announced Smith and the club mutually agreed to part ways.
Smith joined Revolution II on January 8th after spending the first five years of his professional career with FC Dallas, North Texas SC, and Birmingham Legion.
The 20-year-old defender made one appearance for Revolution II as he started at left back and played the full 90 minutes in the 2-1 loss to Philadelphia Union II on March 24th’s season opener.
It appears the mutual termination was to allow Smith to return to the USL Championship, as league newcomers Rhode Island FC announced the signing of Collin Smith just an hour after news of the mutual parting was released.
New England Revolution II returns to action on Sunday, March 31st, as they welcome MLS NEXT Pro newcomers Carolina Core FC to Gillette Stadium.
Plays 90 and then gone less than three months after signing? Is something else going on here?
