Revolution II Feeling Relief Following Shutout Victory
Friday's 1-0 victory over Red Bulls II had Revs II feeling good!
A weight was lifted off New England Revolution II’s back Friday night when their five-game skid came to an end thanks to a stunning goal from Maciel followed up by a collective defensive effort that led Revs II to their first clean sheet since September 1st, 2023, as they secured a 1-0 victory at home over New York Red Bulls.
Richie Williams highlighted how his squad’s consistency was a big factor in the win.
“The consistency factor was big for this game…We played really well from the first minute to the 90th,” he said. “We made a ton of chances. Unfortunately, we only got one goal, so hopefully we’ll take those changes next week, and we got a clean sheet. Overall, I thought it was a really good job.”
Williams also commended the effort from his squad in the victory.
“From the front to the back, we defended well together, and we did what we needed to do to win the game,” the coach added.
Goalkeeper J.D. Gunn emphasized how he was not the only factor in the shutout win and how it requires commitment from every player on the pitch.
“The clean sheet is not just me,” he said. “It's everybody from striker all the way down to the keeper…Again, it's a team effort, never the goalkeeper alone. Super thankful for the effort tonight.”
Hopefully, this shutout win can help boost confidence and lead to the club getting results and moving up the table. They’ll look for their second back-to-back victory on Sunday, June 23rd when they host Crown Legacy inside Mark A. Ouellette Stadium at 6:00 PM ET.
Very exciting game to watch. Congrats on shut out.
