Revolution Honor Life Of Olivia Knighton
Carles Gil: "We know that Olivia is there, always supporting us."
The New England Revolution honored the life of Olivia Knighton on Saturday when they hosted FC Cincinnati.
Olivia tragically passed away in 2023. A foundation with her name was created to carry out her goal of making the world a better place.
Several players and staff members wore clothing emblazoned with the foundation’s logo before and after the game. An announcement about the organization was made in the stadium just before kickoff.
Brad, Olivia’s father and current Revs II coach, was in the locker room as the players prepared to take the field.
“Just a really special moment there to hear from him,” Tanner Beason said. “I obviously can't imagine, but really amazing for him to come in here and speak to us, and so inspiring for him to have the kind of courage to come in here and share with us pre-match. And obviously, [we are] happy and proud to go out there and play for her and for them as well.”
The foundation has done a great deal of good for the community, including offering treats to police officers, distributing Easter baskets, and helping children attend summer camps.
The Love for Liv Learning Fund Scholarship, which grants five seniors $5,000 to use towards their college education, was created in 2024.
“Brad is a guy we love,” Carles Gil said. “Obviously, we know that Olivia is there, always supporting us. We wanted to give him [and his family] the win, it didn’t happen, but for sure they are always in our heart.”
