Revolution Awaiting Return of "Killer" Gustavo Bou
“Yes, of course. With Gustavo [Bou], everyone knows he’s a killer, he’s scoring goals for us, and obviously makes things better for the team.”
New England Revolution fans won’t have to wait for Gustavo Bou to return to the field much longer.
Bruce Arena gave an update on Bou’s eventual return to the pitch on Tuesday after training. The Designated Player didn’t arrive in New England until the day before the team’s season-opening win over Charlotte FC as he awaited his Green Card.
“Yeah, [Gustavo Bou] is getting there,” Arena said on Tuesday. “It’s been real positive. He came in, actually, in pretty good shape and the last week or so has helped him get closer to game fitness. The goal is to get him through the week of practice and hopefully have him in our gameday roster.”
Bou immediately jumped into full training with the Revs last week, another promising sign that he could return to the matchday squad soon.
Since arriving in New England back in 2019, La Pantera has become a prominent fixture in the Revs attack. He has scored 37 goals and 16 assists in 81 regular season games.
The 33-year-old is more than just a leader on the field for New England. Bou is one of the more experienced players on the roster only behind Omar Gonzalez (34 years old).
Arena touched upon Bou’s role in the Revolution locker room and his ability to influence younger players.
“[Gustavo Bou] is an experienced guy,” Arena said. “He believes in the club, and he loves it here. He’s a goal scorer, and there aren’t that many goal scorers out there. Those are the guys that get paid a little bit more, usually, on all the teams and he could score goals. So, to have another player with those kinds of qualities is a positive.
“We’re getting a little bit younger here and it’s good to have a veteran like himself and Carles Gil around,” the head coach and sporting director added.
Gil and Bou have become foundational pieces in New England. The duo has built great chemistry and constantly links up when playing together.
The Revolution captain believes that the team can reach another level when Bou and other injured players make their return.
“Yes, of course. With Gustavo [Bou], everyone knows he’s a killer, he’s scoring goals for us, and obviously makes things better for the team,” Gil said.
It also sounds like Revolution fans will get to see Andrew Farrell return to the pitch soon. Arena indicated that Farrell should be ready to return after this weekend’s game against LAFC.
After a historic start to the season for New England, fans should be excited that the team is close to being fully healthy. The team will only grow stronger as they look to remain at the top of the Eastern Conference.
