Revolution Amputee Stars Shine Bright On International Stage
Four members of the Revs Amputee Soccer Team helped the U.S. put up a good performance in the Gold Cup and secure Amputee World Cup qualification!
This past week was a special one for four members of the Revolution Amputee Soccer squad. Goalkeeper Corey Laycock, along with Nico Calabria, Vinny Fisher, and Musabwa Nizrimwo, joined up with the United States Amputee Soccer Team as the nation competed in the recent Gold Cup tournament.
It all began on July 8 when the U.S faced off against Guatemala. It was an all-New England affair in this one. Musabwa Nizrimwo showed out as he found the back of the net three times to earn the hat trick. He also dished out an assist to fellow New England teammate Nico Calabria as the U.S. secured a dominant 4-0 win in their opening match. The opener also saw Corey Laycock clinch the clean sheet.
July 10 saw Musabwa and Calabria combine again as the U.S. returned to action to face Costa Rica. Both players found the back of the net to secure the United States a 2-0 victory.
Musabwa stole the show on July 11th when he netted two of the United States’ goals in their nervy 3-2 victory over El Salvador.
Their final outing came on July 12 when they faced Mexico as they looked to take home the gold. Unfortunately, it wasn’t their night. Despite Musabwa assisting on the opening goal and Nico Calabria finding one of his own, it wasn’t enough as Mexico prevailed with a 3-2 victory.
Despite coming up short against Mexico, the United States’ run in the tournament secured the nation a spot in the 2026 Amputee World Cup.
A silver medal wasn’t the only award the United States walked away with. Musabwa Nizirmwo took home the Golden Boot award after finding the net six times throughout the tournament.
