Revolution Amputee Soccer Team Secures Big Win at Home
The MLS side wasn't the only team to hand New York a defeat inside Gillette Stadium Saturday night!
The action continued following the Revolution’s 2-0 victory at home over New York City FC as the Revolution Amputee Soccer Team took the pitch to host Metro NY in an exhibition match. Like the meeting between the MLS sides, the game was firmly in New England’s grasp.
A good fastbreak created a dangerous chance for Metro NY in the second minute, but Corey Laycock came up huge as he stretched his hand out wide to deflect the shot down and scooped the ball up.
Musa Nzirimwo was at the right place at the right time in the fifth minute. Despite New England having an initial chance saved by Metro NY’s keeper, Nzirimwo was alert and got onto the loose ball before drilling it in to give the Revs an early 1-0 lead.
Kamal Kimo’s corner kick in the seventh minute led to more success for New England. Kimo’s corner rolled straight to Jordan Obie, who tapped it into the net to give the Revs a 2-0 lead.
Metro NY came close to shortening the gap in the 11th minute when they whipped in a shot from a difficult angle. Despite making the initial save, the ball nearly slipped through Corey Laycock’s legs, but the keeper thankfully dove onto it before it crossed the line.
Metro NY looked poised to find the back of the net in the 18th minute when they lobbed the ball forward. Thankfully for New England, Vinny Fisher was there to backheel the ball away before a Metro NY player could get to the ball.
A well-placed clearance in the 23rd minute landed right into the path of Nzirimwo. He turned on the jets and evaded the last defender to find himself one-on-one with the keeper and Nzirimwo slotted the ball in to notch his second of the evening and push New England’s lead to three.
Nzirimwo secured the hat trick in incredible fashion in the 29th minute. After getting the ball, Nzirimwo squeezed the ball past two Metro NY defenders and the keeper to net his third goal of the evening while giving the Revolution a 4-0 lead.
Melvin Coleman displayed selflessness in the 32nd minute. Despite receiving a pass from Jordan Obie and having a clear shot on goal, Coleman dished it back to Obie, who tapped it in to net his second of the game and propel New England to a 5-0 lead.
Revolution Amputee Soccer Team are always exciting to watch. Wish we could see more of them through out the year.
