The Third Yellow vs. Clear and Obvious Second Yellows

There were a lot of close calls in the Revs season opener at DC United, but Giacomo Vrioni's early departure wasn't one of them.

Before we get into the weekend’s calls, I would like to mention my solidarity with the PRSA officials in their ongoing contract talks and lockout with PRO. Refereeing at the MLS level should be a full-time job and compensated as such. MLS has always been at the forefront of VAR reviews and I think set the standard internationally with PRO’s transparency of the VAR process.

I think all of the calls that went to VAR from the DC-New England game would have been under the scrutiny of VAR regardless of who was in the middle because that’s how close the plays were and they are not an indication of how good or bad Andrew Musashe and his referee crew is under the circumstances.
