I LOVE this. Might be Tom’s best work ever. I have doubts the league would ever do anything that makes sense like this..but maybe if their favorites in Miami are crying about results it will lead to a change. Do you guys have a connection in the mls office? I hope this proposal would at least get looked at by them
I know, at least for the USOC and other tournaments that aren’t fixed in the preseason schedule, the Revs don’t draw very well. I assume some other clubs have the same issue.
True but midweek and early season cold temps crush attendance to those games as well. Midweek games are nearly always poorly attended even if scheduled in advance.
But your point still stands, uncertainty of game dates would be a challenge.
That is a clear improvement over the current approach. Ideally, fit the entire round of 16 in between the October and November international breaks. Or play it all after the November break.
I would also support moving to a 3 or 4 division format rather than 2 conferences.
Would this really be more games though? Right now they play 34 and then everyone who makes the playoffs (practically the whole league) plays a best of 3 and then I’m not sure what the format is after that but I’d imagine for the top playoff finishers they are finishing with over 40 games
I like the premise of this but I don’t love a neutral site for MLS Cup.

I think it’s a great format (well done!), but I think MLS teams want/need a set advance schedule to sell tickets.
That's a great point, would be a hurdle for sure. Lot of monster trucks events to schedule!

No, no. Way too confusing, and we don't need more games in a league that already has too much congestion.
The English Championship plays 46 games, the Premier League plays 38 plus two Cup competitions in each league. Minimum of 48 and 40.
This would only be 36.
Leagues Cup taking up a month is the real issue.
