haha, too true! Tbh, I read that and my spirits were briefly, ever-so-slightly lifted based solely on the suggestion that Revs had scored a goal (that I'd somehow managed to miss). Only to have reality crash back down on me. 😅
Another nice piece, Tom, that encapsulates the frustration of watching the Revs during Porter's tenure. The financial trading analogy is an apt one. I read a comment recently that said that Porter's "system" is geared towards success in the playoffs. I can somewhat see that in that teams often play more conservatively in knock out tournaments. The problem is that style of play all season won't even get you into the playoffs, and is terribly boring to watch.
Quite the accurate employment of financial analysis towards Porter - and I hate financial analysis.
The biggest question still has not been fully answered - how did Porter win MLS cups at two different clubs and yet fail so miserably here?
Can’t be due to just watching a dumb movie for overall guidance. His day has passed - that kind of thing?
MLS was a drastically different league when he won in Portland and 2020 was a total one off of a season all together
The league is of much higher quality now in terms of players, styles of play and overall technical level
Porter just looks like he can't adapt
Spot on.
“All of which hasn’t panned out in the Revs favor anywhere near often enough, the 2-1 loss to Cincinnati was the 25th of Porter’s tenure.”
You had me opening up Fotmob to see if I was going crazy, but no, the Revs lost 1-0 on Saturday to Cincy…
Thanks for catch, too many 1 goal losses to keep track of
