Pablo Moreira Pleased With Performance of Allan Oyirwoth
“I think Allan put in a shift. I thought today he felt really comfortable."
Allan Oyirwoth got his second straight Major League Soccer start and the midfielder showed some composure that you wouldn’t expect from an 18-year-old.
Oyirwoth played 80 minutes — over 50 minutes on a yellow — and recorded six defensive contributions, seven passes into the final third, seven recoveries, three tackles, and two interceptions.
“I think Allan put in a shift. I thought today he felt really comfortable,” interim head coach Pablo Moreira said. “Picking up a yellow card isn’t always easy because now you almost feel like you can’t be as physical and demanding getting into tackles. Especially in a game against Philly, sometimes that works against you. But I thought Allan was great. On the day, I thought he was active, he won balls. To be fair, I think every substitute that came in provided a lift and I’m very happy in that regard.”
Along with Oyirwoth, Eric Klien appeared off the bench for the Revs. While Klein only played a few minutes, they are valuable for a youngster such as himself.
After the 1-0 loss, New England is officially eliminated from the playoffs. The remaining games are purely for pride and giving fans hope that the future will be brighter than the past two years. While the Revs will be looking to get Dor Turgeman acclimated and ready for the 2026 season, where he will be desperately needed, New England should also prioritize playing youngsters.
Oyirwoth has earned starts, but the likes of Klein should also be considered. Additionally, strikers such as Sharod George, Marcos Dias, Cristiano Oliveira, or Liam Butts should earn some minutes.
New England has earned the reputation of a selling club, including the sale of youngsters such as Tajon Buchanan and Esmir Bajraktarevic. Peyton Miller has been rumored for a European move and Oyirwoth is reportedly gathering interest across the pond as well.
If the Revs want to continue attracting young talent, they need to continue to be able to show that players will get the chance to prove themselves and garner transfer interest abroad.
While Oyirwoth still has a long way to go, his performances have shown that he belongs at the pro level. Heading into 2026, he should be competing for a starting job alongside Alhassan Yusuf, not getting ready to play with Revs II.
