Onalfo Expects New Revolution Head Coach In Next Eight Weeks
“It will be important that the new head coach feels very good about our roster."
New England Revolution sporting director Curt Onalfo expects to have a new head coach in place in the next eight weeks.
The Revs parted ways with Caleb Porter on Monday after going 23-39-13 in all competitions since December 2024.
Onalfo told Zolak and Betrand that it was a difficult decision, “especially when you work as closely as you do with the coach on a daily basis.”
“When you look at it, we have very high expectations as a club, and we’ve fallen short,” Onalfo said.
Onalfo specifically pointed to the Revs’ home record, as they won just eight of 32 games at Gillette Stadium under Porter. The hope is that the next head coach will remedy that.
While the process has just begun, Onalfo said that there’s been “enormous interest.”
“We have a much-improved roster,” Onalfo said. “We have owners that are very serious and want to win.”
Onalfo noted that the Revs revamped their roster for Porter, adding 18 players in 2025. He doesn’t expect as much turnover next year, saying, “You can’t do that every year. It’s just impossible. It was unprecedented, the amount of moves we made.”
“It will be important that the new head coach feels very good about our roster,” Onalfo said. “And in the initial conversations that I’ve had, I’m getting that from our potential candidates.”
When asked when the Revs will have a new head coach, Onalfo said that “an eight-week timeline is adequate.” Initial conversations have occurred, and interviews are expected to be set up next week.
“We’re going to keep plugging away, we’re going to keep getting better, and we’re going to find ourselves a really capable coach who’s going to come in and help us,” Onalfo said.
