NWSL Boston Submits Project Notification Form, New Stadium Renderings to City Planning
We read the 382 page project notification form so you didn't have to!
In a project notification form submitted to the Boston Planning & Development Agency, NWSL Boston fans got their first look of what the renovated White Stadium could look like.
As a part of the project site overview, Boston Unity Soccer Partners LLC stated that the West Grandstand will receive renovations and additions.
“The West Grandstand component includes retaining the curving concrete wall (the ‘clamshell’ wall) while demolishing the existing bleacher seats and stadium foundation, as well as the existing floors and columns,” the overview states. “The Project will replace the current 5,000 bleacher seats with approximately 5,000 bucket seats within the West Grandstand, with additional team and fan programs. A roof canopy will provide weather protection to the West Grandstand seating.”
There will also be a grove area that features food and beverage stations, as well as restrooms, water fountains, and storage. The plan also expressed a hope for food trucks to utilize the area along with merchandising and other game-day activities.
Boston Unity also claims that the renovation will create over 500 jobs during renovation and construction, as well as over 300 new permanent jobs at all economic levels with preference given to local contractors, vendors, and employees.
One draw back of the proposed plan is a complete lack of parking according to the document. On-street parking will be largely relied upon for fans who wish to drive their vehicle to attend a game along with satellite parking facilities.
“The operations plan intends to use satellite parking facilities, with shuttle service to and from the stadium for event spectators,” the document states. “Spectators for events will be required to pre-purchase parking and parking passes will not be sold at the parking facilities. The pre-purchase of parking passes will allow for better management of operations, including facilitating how many spaces are needed at each satellite location as well as the number and frequency of shuttle buses servicing each parking facility.”
So while there is still a long way to go, professional soccer fans in the city of Boston should be excited about what White Stadium will look like after these proposed renovations.
I love how the rendering depicts smoke in the end zone
