New England Revolution Suffer Another Loss
The Revs drop all three points in their trip to TQL Stadium.
Caleb Porter and the New England Revolution hit the road on Saturday as they traveled to TQL Stadium to take on FC Cincinnati!
The club came into Saturday’s match looking to build off last Saturday’s outing that saw Carles Gil’s brace propel the Revs to their first win of the 2025 campaign.
Injuries hindered Cincinnati as Teenage Hadabe, Evander, Yuya Kubo, Obinna Nwobodo and Miles Robinson were absent from the lineup.
While Leo Campana, Andrew Farrell, Malcolm Fry and Tomás Chancalay remained out, Saturday did see the return of defender Brayan Ceballos, who missed last Saturday’s game.
Conditions were poor in Cincinnati as rain poured onto the pitch at TQL Stadium come kickoff, evident in the opening minutes as the slick surface led to a plethora of turnovers.
Kevin Denkey became the first player to enter the book as he received a yellow card in the 14th minute for embellishment.
A short corner opportunity nearly led to Cincinnati finding the opener in the 15th minute. After receiving a pass from the corner, Luca Orellano crossed it centrally, where it found Kevin Denky. Denkey attempted to volley the ball but struck it poorly as it sailed over the net.
A patient build-up nearly led the Revs to find the opener. After driving along the top of the box, Ignatious Ganago slotted the ball back into a pocket of space. Ilay Fiengold ran onto the ball and rocketed a shot to the far post. Unfortunately for Feingold, the shot trickled too far to the left as it rolled out.
Roman Celentano’s poor reaction nearly led the Revs to success when Luca Langoni was inches away from snagging the ball from Celetano’s feet. Celetano got the ball away just in the nick of time to prevent an embarrassing goal.
Brayan Ceballos’ head nearly led to New England finding the net in the 24th minute as he leaped into the air and headed Carles Gil’s corner kick. Unfortunately for Ceballos, his header ricocheted off the post. New England attempted to make something of the rebounded ball but came up short as the Cincinnati defense cleared it.
Ignatius Ganago’s deflected strike in the 30th minute nearly found the back of the net. After receiving Carles Gil’s pass, Ganago turned and sent a shot that was deflected. The deflected shot sailed toward Celentano, who attempted to get his hands on it. Rainy conditions led to the ball slipping away from the keeper as it continued toward goal.
Unfortunately for the Revs, the deflected and bobbled ball ricocheted off the right goalpost and was cleared out of play.
Luca Orellano became the second player to enter the book. He received a yellow card in the 40th minute for undercutting a leaping Peyton Miller.
Kevin Denkey was inches away from breaking the deadlock in the 42nd minute when he received a pass inside the box and turned toward goal. Denkey attempted to slot the ball to the lower-right corner but put the shot wide.
A poor turnover from Cincinnati nearly paid dividends for New England in the 49th minute. Ignatius Ganago was at the right place at the right time as he dispossessed Flores. Ganago got onto the ball and attempted to slot it past Celentano, but the Cincinnati defense recovered in time to deflect the shot.
Matt Polster became the first Revs player to see yellow as he was brandished a card in the 52nd minute for delaying a Cincinnati throw-in.
The Revolution’s first change came in the 55th minute when Jackson Yueill replaced Maxi Urruti.
Cincinnati broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, thanks to Sergio Santos. After receiving Corey Baird’s pass, Kevin Denkey passes it back to Baird. Baird rocketed a shot on target that Ivačič deflected.
Unfortunately for the Revs, Ivačič’s deflection fell into a pocket of space. Sergio Santos alertly ran onto the ball and struck it home to give Cincinnati the 1-0 lead.
Another change came in the 73rd minute when Luis Díaz replaced Luca Langoni.
Ivačič came up big in the 81st minute when he came off his line to prevent Luca Orellano from extending Cincinnati’s lead to two.
Peyton Miller received a yellow card in the 83rd minute after fouling Luca Orellano and kicking the ball away in frustration afterward.
Despite having numerous opportunities, the Revolution failed to get on the scoresheet as the match ended in a 1-0 win for the home team as the Revs suffered their fourth loss in six games to open the 2025 season.
The Revs will look to get back into the win column next Saturday when they travel to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, to face Atlanta United at 2:45 PM ET.
Fire Porter.
Fire Onalfo.
Fire Bilello.
Looked good in first half. The second half they looked flat. A big disappointment again.
