Thank you for this confirmation of the absolute “train wreck” of a season. There are ways that in a couple of other seasons the Revs were comparably bad. There is also evidence that for the fans here in New England this was the worst Revs season ever. Ugh.
The Revs have been to more championship games than almost EVERY other MLS team. The exceptions all got stars. It is still true that most teams envy our history. We will go again. It is in who we are. It is part of our identity. We are the Revolution.
While I have little quarrel with the article as far as it goes--this is by any measure a horrible season--as a Revs supporter from day one I think it's important to note that the club was very, very bad in the league's beginning years. As someone who remembers watching the club from the stands at the old Foxboro Stadium, I'd have to say that those early years, and especially 1998 and '99, probably were the worst in the club's history, overall and in terms of home performance. In 1998 we finished last in the conference, last in the overall table, 0.91 PPG, and a -13 GD across 32 matches. In 1999 we had a GD of -15 in a season with a TOTAL of only 38 goals scored across 32 matches, and a 0.81 PPG. We, shall we say, sucked.
That's a really great point. I avoided including the early years because the lack of draws made the comparison a bit less meaningful. I wasn't following the club then, but I did laugh a bit to myself when looking through their records in the late 90s.

Seems like your analysis is on target, unlike the players trying to score goals this season.
Onalfo can have this article, and all I ask in return is Vrioni's salary 🤣
