Multiple Changes Made To New England Revolution Coaching Staff: Clint Peay Promoted, Shalrie Joseph and Dave van den Bergh Depart
A flurry of changes to the Revolution coaching staff comes off a dramatic day in Foxboro.
A major shake-up to the New England Revolution’s coaching staff came Tuesday night following a long day that saw numerous meetings and Richie Williams face the media for the first time since Bruce Arena’s resignation.
According to The Athletic, the day began with club president Brian Bilello scheduling a mandatory meeting with players to discuss the ongoing events at the club and answer questions. After an hour-long meeting, players requested a meeting with then-interim head coach Richie Williams. Williams provided little to no clarity on the matter as he repeatedly stated he could not comment on the matter.
One player told The Athletic that “not many players trust Richie leading the team”. With the ever-growing animosity in the locker room, three big changes are coming to the coaching staff.
Firstly, Revolution II Head Coach Clint Peay has become the first team’s interim coach. Peay served as an assistant coach under former interim head coach Richie Williams. Peay has spent the last four years coaching the club's USL League One/MLS NEXT Pro side Revolution II.
Secondly, Revs II assistant Marcelo Santos, who had been serving as Revolution II’s interim head coach with Peay up with the first team, will also move up as he’ll serve as an assistant under Clint Peay. Like Peay, Santos has spent the last four seasons with Revs II.
Lastly, assistant coaches Shalrie Joseph and Dave van den Bergh’s tenure with the New England Revolution has ended as all parties have parted ways.
Sources close to Seth Macomber reiterate former interim Richie Williams is still with the organization, yet it is unknown what capacity he will serve going forward.
More information may come tomorrow as President Brian Bilello and Technical Director Curt Onalfo will meet with the media.
And really sad that Shalrie is out, what happened with him??
What an absolute disaster
