MLS All-Stars Defeat Liga MX All-Stars at 2025 MLS All Star Game
Carles Gil got to remember what it is like to win a game
The MLS All-Stars Defeated the LIGA MX All-Stars 3-1 in front of a sell-out crowd at Q2 Stadium.
Starting XI’s:
The first half was dominated by defense with both sets of goalkeepers making some great saves. If this was the NBA, the defensive effort would be welcome but for a soccer match, some goalscoring would have been nice.
Brad Stuver was the star of the first XI. Without his efforts, the MLS All-Stars would have been down a goal or more.
The MLS All-Stars broke the deadlock in the 28th minute as Denis Bouanga secured his own rebound after his shot was sent directly at Malagon. The LAFC star then sent a cross to Sam Surridge, whose header found the back of the net.
MLS was the first side to make changes as Hany Mukhtar Tai Baribo, Jakob Glesnes, Diego Rossi, Dayne St. Clair, Jeppe Tverskov, Marco Pašalić entered the match.
For Liga MX it was the same story as the New England Revolution, as they were simply unable to finish. The away side got numerous chances but was unable to convert.
MLS’ success continued in the start of the second half as Tai Baribo was played in on goal with a beautiful pass from Rossi and the Philadelphia Union striker didn’t let the chance go to waste. He calmly finished past Liga MX’s second goalkeeper of the night, Kevin Mier.
In the 60th minute, Revolution fans finally got to see Carles Gil enter the pitch. Unfortunatley for him, he was on the field when Liga MX was finally able to get a shot on target and furthermore in the back of the net. 16-year-old Gilberto Mora sent a shot past Vancouver goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka. To Takaoka’s credit, once he found his place in the game, he made some great saves to ensure MLS was victorious.
Gil got some chances to show his skill and flair throughout the match. He connected well with Alex Freeman and Diego Luna, two players that Revs fans would love to have on their roster.
To Takaoka’s credit, once he found his place in the game, he made some great saves to ensure MLS was the winners on the night.
He played a key part in helping MLS score its third goal of the match, intercepting the ball and making a defender look silly in the process. Eventually, Brian White snuck a ball past Mier to secure the win for MLS.
While a win is great, Revolution fans will simply be happy that he escaped the match unharmed. Now New England’s captain will turn its attention to a crucial match against CF Montreal as Giacomo Vrioni returns to Gillette Stadium on Friday.
