Max Weinstein Reflects Following Third Consecutive Start
Hear what the young goalkeeper had to say following last weekend's loss at home.
Max Weinstein returned between the pipes for a third straight match when Revolution II hosted FC Cincinnati 2.
It was a pretty uneventful evening until the 40th minute. A free-kick opportunity from outside the box led Brian Schaefer to get the ball, turn goalward, and drill the ball into the back of the net in what was Cincinnati’s lone shot on target in the match.
Despite the rough outing against Cincinnati, his first two appearances of the season saw him make five saves across the 1-0 win over NYCFC II and 2-2 draw against Chicago Fire II.
Following the match, Weinstein said it felt “great” to play over the past three games and expressed his gratitude for getting the opportunity to play.
"With my age, it's all about development, so I'm just glad I'm developing at a good pace, and obviously I need to play more games than this, so just looking for opportunities to get more games, but I'm always ready to play,” he said.
Speaking of development, Weinstein credits veteran goalkeeper and recent hire Brad Knighton as a big influence in his development.
“The biggest thing is just his mind,” the goalkeeper said. “We just lost a game to a team that I don't think we should have lost to. So, just seeing how he deals with it and how he doesn't get too low. He talks to me about not getting too high, not getting too low, and really staying in the moment is the biggest thing, even right now, the game just finished, but I feel present and I feel ready to reflect on the game. I would say it’s a lot about the mind, and Brad’s really taught me that.”
Weinstein will look for another opportunity to continue developing when Revolution II hits the road to face Philadelphia Union II on June 26.
Max is a good goal keeper. I thought he was going to be the number one keeper when Jacob left.
